It looks like he’s trying to do a little too much right now. He’s trying to carry his line mates instead of just playing within his role. He needs to simplify things a bit and not worry about chasing down every free puck, thread every needle with a pass and cover defensively every time another forward on his line makes a bad read.

Yes he can do a lot of those things because his size, skills and speed but they’re taking away from what makes him most dangerous having the puck on his stick looking to make the best decisions in the offensive zone.

Yes, referring to PLD.

Byfield’s skating is different than MacKinnon’s. He’s taller, and will be bigger, and needs to build up the leg strength some more. That happens, he’s going to be an absolute beast in the corners, where he’s above average right now.
