D.J. Smith Hotseat Thread

After not scoring with an empty net for 8 minutes. DS has to be on the hot seat. Inexcusable. He has to go.

DJ is desperately trying to outdo Hiller running his top guys into the ground. If he tries harder he should be reducing Sammy's minutes to 1 or 2 per game. He got Kopi up to 25 against the Islanders but only 23 against Montreal. I am sure the top guys will be totally refreshed for the upcoming road trip.

It’s so frustrating watching an experienced NHL coach mismanage shifts so badly. Part Deux. I could probably do better than either Hiller or Smith. And I’ve never played even a second of ice hockey.

If your game strategy is to reach OT, the Kings are best in the NHL. Logically a plan to win OT should follow. As an assistant, you watch the coach deploy 2 of the oldest, slowest players in the NHL for OT, then recycle them until the inevitable OT loss. Coach gets fired for several reasons, one of which is he leads the NHL in OT losses.

You get the job. You successfully continue the Kings game strategy to reach OT. Then deploy the same 2 old, slow guys, often worn out because of unbalanced line management, against the oppositions faster, more skilled players. Apparently believing this approach will work after watching it largely fail for 50+ games. INSANITY at its finest.

I think it was obvious to everyone, including the front office, that the coaching change bounce dissipated rather quickly. I think it's just as obvious that Smith is not keeping this job past game 82 because he has been unable to break the pattern of failure that has produced so many blown point opportunities. He lacks the creativity and courage necessary to support a winner. This dismal season can't end soon enough.
