D.J. Smith Hotseat Thread

Turcotte is a major disappointment for a top five pick. This is primarily due to being injury prone and an inability to put up points. He has still proven to be an NHL player, and plays harder than his size. He doesn’t hurt the Kings, but he doesn’t have an impact either. The team is never better or worse when he’s in the lineup or not.

I would like to see him included in a multi-players/picks trade for Petterson. I think he is still a throw-in candidate and would be happy for him if he could pull an Amadio and produce somewhat elsewhere.

If he can't get that lineup to win consistently, what will he do with this lineup. Remember the Kings don't have the goalie; they once had just a season ago. Or 4 months ago.
Bruce Cassidy has a long established stellar coaching career that goes well beyond whatever is happening in Vegas this season. He has a career winning percentage of .630. He’s got a cup and been to the Final twice. He’s a fantastic coach. If hired he’d easily be the best coach since Sutter.

No doubt he would be the best coach since Sutter. Obviously something has gone south with Vegas. Not sure if the team had tuned Cassidy out because with that lineup and average goaltending, they should be winning.

Not my favorite coach but even I think the Kings should already have an offer out to him. This is a "Golden" opportunity.

They don't have average goaltending. They have Adin Hill. :)
They also made a mostly lateral trade with Whitecloud for Andersson.
It is good to see Vegas struggling and making some bad moves. I don't think a lot of this was Cassidy's fault. He got their defense to be amazing during the Cup run. So maybe the players got sick of that style. Also, trading Logan Thompson for two 3rds was an apparent mistake.

Uh, Torts, you good? Usually when I think of functionally illiterate NHL coaches, my first thought is Jacques Demers' admission/bravery. That tweet is banana (stick calling) cray.

Toronto Maple Leafs fire GM Brad Treliving
The dismissal had become a foregone conclusion in the wake of the worst Leafs season in a decade, their first without playoffs since 2016, ending the longest streak in the NHL.

After the job he did in Calgary, why wouldn't Toronto expect him to suck and ruin the team?

14 out a possible 26 points so far
Forecheck seems more aggressive, but it hasn't resulted in more goals.
No improvement on the defensive side either
Kings seem a little more competitive in this small sample size of games under JD. He may be looking to stabilize things ... not transform. I really hope they'll keep looking for a coach that can unleash the talent on this team.

The good news is that every team in the East has more wins than the Kings including the last place, Rangers. What a difference a trade can make.

Can you imagine if the Kings won 30% of their 18 OT losses. They would be in the playoffs.

Defense has generated more opportunities and scoring, though, which was greatly needed (I believe the Kings were among last in that category prior to the HC change). The team is also playing more physical, but that also exposes the slow defense more.

End of day they have been a tougher team to beat on most nights, but still have glaring weaknesses.

As others have mentioned, the vets are still being given too much ice time which isn't a recipe that will work over a 82 game season + playoffs.

It is very good news. Sets them up for a much better draft position. A top 10 pick this year should be high end.
There is a lot of solid talent in the top 12 this draft - we really need to get a pick somewhere in that range. Top 3-4 is in the range of many drafts top 2.

If there is ever a good draft for a lottery pick, this appears to be one of them.

Loser point really cost Kings top prospect this upcoming draft. Could have been drafting top 5 talent.

The Kings need to stop actually winning their last remaining games this season. Even if they secure the final WC2 spot in the Western Conference, they will clearly get eaten alive by any of the Central Division teams or by Anaheim, Deadmonton, or Vegass once the playoffs are set. Plus, winning their games hurts their draft position even more so they're screwing themselves out of a potential franchise-changing pick and could end up becoming like Columbus after the late 10s (if that's a good analogy).
