Dewy skating!

I’m concerned about Trevor Lewis coming back. I am enjoying Sammy’s physicality. I suppose Akil will just take a seat at that point, which I also don’t love from a development standpoint.

EDIT: the above 12/6 would work.
61-79-47/26 until Andre or Killer grabs that RW4 spot for good.

Drew is Drew. We all know what to expect. My concern on D is Spence.

I just want to see Hiller go back to 12/6. Kings really need to assemble a solid 4th line when Lewis gets back. Give Lee and/or Killer a real shot at becoming a true NHLer.
Agreed, the team needs to go back to 12/6 considering Lewis and Kaliyev will both soon be ready to join. I think that leaves Lee and Thomas as the odd forwards out as I would like to see Helenius stay (his physical impact would be missed too much [67 hits in 20 games]).

Lee could be a big addition come playoff time if he better learns to use his body and increase his physical impact. The AHL seems like the right place for him at the moment.

Thomas is ready for the NHL and needs experience, so sending him back down doesn't seem to accomplish much. Maybe they rotate both he and Kaliyev?

Helenius has already made the team. Hiller loves him. We all love him. Either Lee or Thomas needs to show something worth keeping in these next 2 games. But someone has to go to make room for Kaliyev and that will be Lee.

But Kaliyev is only gonna be around until Moore comes back... at the longest… maybe sooner if he fails to impress. But he will get waived. Even the Mayor finally agrees with me and he is a big Arty supporter.

And then someone else will have to be moved when Drew returns. Hope it’s Burroughs.

Interesting decisions for the front office coming up.

Yeah, Kaliyev just didn't show enough progress and this injury was at a very unfortunate point of his LA Kings tenure and likely means his departure is inevitable.

Plug him in slowly and let him take his time. Hell, send him down to Ontario to play a conditioning game or three. Once he’s back to game shape, plug him into the 3rd unit and make him work his way up. Need to also limit his minutes until he’s earned it.

Edmundson has been a beast, and I loathe the idea of him being buried on the 3rd pairing with Spence. I almost think we need to make a deal for a bigger, more seasoned right shot defenseman, but I guess Spence has earned the right to play.

Or one of Spence/Clarke/Moverare could get scratched depending on the matchup and form, and Hiller puts Gavy on the right when needed more toughness/size and on the left when smaller but more offensively skilled D corps would be acceptable...

I would just like to say that quite apart from the intrinsic level of camaraderie provided by superlative fan sites such as this, being a pure novice and outsider, despite my previous 19 years living and (always) working in the USA, I personally find these threads not only extremely fascinating and entertaining, but also amazingly eloquently educational (meaning even I can follow what is being said).

The obviously stellar hockey IQ of many on this site is extremely helpful to me not only in cultivating a broader perspective and appreciation for the game, but also gaining insight into the otherwise hidden magic and mysteries of the both the sport and the business of hockey.

Without wishing to sound (overly) sycophantic, I would like to wish you all, and your loved ones, a happy, healthy and safe New Year and, in particular, to thank each and every one of you on this board so very much for adding such a pleasurable and rewarding dimension to my Life as a distant yet lifelong and, of course, unshakably devoted LA Kings supporter.

Happy New Year!

Now the important question for you so that I can gauge your understanding of what it takes to win in this league, who would you be inclined to trade for if we’re giving up Turcotte and a pick?

Moverare has been so steady at LD3 and he is good at cleaning up after Spence. It’s a bummer that he could be the odd man out when Drew returns. Or do we think Hiller will stay married to 11/7?

I won't be surprised if Hiller goes back to 12/6 when DD returns. Burroughs will be the odd man out. LA has a few forwards champing at the bit for a while and not given adequate time to showcase (because this team needs to start winning). So, all those forwards mentioned above (Helenius, Lee, Kaliyev, Thomas, etc ) are going to have 2 spots to fight over. then 1 when Moore comes back.

I really hope he will keep the 11/7 until he sees what's what after DD is inserted back into the lineup. Hiller clearly has the smarts to juggle 7 defensemen and make the team win consistently with very solid defense while doing so, despite having a defensively questionable rookie and two AHL-NHL yoyos on the back-end. I see absolutely no reason whatsoever that he doesn't keep this up for at least a month or so, maybe even until the playoffs...by that time he'll know very well which D lines to use against whichever opponent the Kings face in the playoffs.

And it's not like the Kings have numerous forward talents knocking on the door waiting to showcase their skills while he's there diddling with 7 D-men.

This setup is basically perfect for DD return and going to 12/6 immediately upon his return would be more than foolish IMHO.

Happy New Year!

What’s Gabe Vilardi up to these days?
