Doughty out for season

Tough news, but on the plus side this team should do damage in the playoffs next season. I do agree though that I hope they make it this season. It's great experience for the kids. And who knows maybe we do have Mikey in the playoffs.

Yep, just had a feeling that he wouldn't come back regardless. I also think Mikey is done too. Just rip the bandage off Kings. We can take it.

Sorry I didn't say replace him but get a good veteran d man or 2 would no9t have taken much more than a couple of 2nd 3rd or 4th round picks in the future. The rookies would be safe. Since we are supposed to be all about the playoffs this year it would have helped. Remember Blake said he didn't because we're going to have everybody back and that was not true. How long is this rebuilding program supposed to take 10 years.

You're right that Blake said that, forgot about that. Maybe he didn't know about Doughty yet, maybe he wanted the players to think he'd be back as motivation to make it. Either way, I think it was the right call. It allows us to play the rookies and see what we have. I personally cannot see any run without Doughty, so to me it would've been pointless. In terms of the ten year comment, the rebuild appears to be slightly ahead of schedule, especially if they make the playoffs.

If Doughty's injury was judged season-ending when it occurred, he would have had the operation immediately. When Blake made the statement that quality players coming back would be the deadline acquisitions, everything I read was still very optimistic about Doughty, Edler and Anderson returning to the team. They gave Drew the opportunity to rehab based on the medical staff's opinion, not on a need for political subterfuge nor a method of skirting the cap.

Rehab failed to produce the desired result and an operation was the only option. It's a scene that plays out quite often in any sport, and it's hard to imagine there is any more to it than that.

I am actually more curious about the Mikey Anderson injury. Haven't heard spit about it. Pelvic injury or abdominal trauma resulting from that borderline dirty Marchand hit??? Anyone know anything at all?

I thought Mikey had a concussion? I know Marchand hit him in the stomach area, but didn't he hit his head of the boards? If it's the stomach area, possible broken rib/s?

Don’t know. Shrouded in mystery. I’ll try asking Hoven on Twitter.

I think he broke something. Either ribs or a collarbone perhaps?
