I’m not sold on Spence as many are on LGK. The Kings defense is one of the weakest in the league and until that changes, first round exits will happen. Besides Roy, who will lay the body? Can’t expect Doughty to do so at his age. Gavrikov is a position player. Clarke will break in half. Spence will get crushed by the forwards of Vegas. Unless Blake has another move up his sleeve nothing has changed but cap space with this move. Durzi will do well in Phoenix as they are building a solid team.
It probably says alot about this D that you think Roy lays the body when he's out there...

This wasn't a "let's make this team a contender with this trade" type of trade.

This was a "we need every penny to make our roster work" and "we need the roster space". You correctly assumed none of our young RD scream playoff material, but the difference between Durzi and Spence is that Durzi's value was at least showcased as decent, thus worthy of a 2nd rounder. So this trade was basically recycling the surplus assets first and foremost. A very smart move basically, as you allow Spence to still have a proper chance to prove himself in case of any injury AND you also open up the LD (instead of misfitting Durzi there) for Bjornfot to finally prove himself or sign a tough veteran LD that would be able to "protect" Clarke (both in terms of defense and in terms of toughness).
