Dustin Brown to retire after 2022 Playoffs

He's been the kind of player every team needs since he was 18 years old. He'll be missed on and off the ice.

I really hope he stays with the Kings in some capacity. Player development, assistant coach, maybe even front office role.

Definitely bittersweet. Did everything asked of him, never complained, and just worked and worked and worked. Set a tone for the organization that this was not a place for Prima Donnas. Decided early in his career that he was committed to the franchise. Huge post-season heroics in 2012, especially game three against Vancouver, punctuating that hit on a Sedin with a third period game winner in 1-0 game that put the series away, then redirected home one of the biggest goals in Kings history.

Someone had a picture a long time ago, probably 2005 or 2006 of all of the big time checkers that Brown had just completely laid out in his first few seasons. Phaneuf, Pronger, there were some big boys on that list and Brown wasn't afraid of any of them. It's the right time, especially with what the Kings have waiting in the wings, but it will be sad not to see him suiting up anymore.

Yes and no. The guy has had a job HERE since he was 18, let's give him a year or two (or a hundred) to breathe and find some non-hockey peace.

Dustin, in your own time. We'll be here, love the Kings HR department ~probably

Me and my kid are sitting here teared up a little bit. It was her first sports player hero. Best captain on and off the ice a team could ask for. Still like to know who took the C off him. He?s
Class act all around.
But I do wonder why he?s announcing now. He?s five regular season games away from 1300. I?d really like to see him stick around one more year for these kids coming up. He?s got to be a really good mentor to them.

Someone on one of the broadcasts last night -- can't remember which one -- mentioned that preparing the mind and body for a new season is always very taxing. For a player Brown's age, it is extra challenging. I know what you're saying about "1300", but I think the timing is correct.

Been a minute all. Thought I would drop back in for this extremely bittersweet moment.

Um, does anyone know where I can get one of those Brown hoodies? I looked everywhere, no dice! That would be perfect under my jersey for the playoffs!

I don’t doubt for an instant that they’ll be available for purchase soon.

How rad was Brownie's shout out to Lappie and Norstrom! It's no wonder Brownie ended up being such a warrior!

And having Bob be the MC was such a treat!

Just watched that press conference & now my eyes are all wet. Of the 4 guys who I refer to as the 4 Legends, he's the one least likely to be voted into the Hall of Fame. But to me he's probably the most important Kings player in franchise history. They're all important, as well as other guys from those championship teams. But it all started with him. Look at the Kings roster from 03-04. Nobody from that team except Brown was part of the Cuo winning teams. The next guy to come along was Kopi in 06-07. Then in 08-09 was when Doughty came along as well as Quick establishing himself as the #1 goalie & some other important pieces like Stoll, Greene, Lewis, & Williams. The point is that it all started with Brown. And that's not to take away from great Kings teams in the past like the Gretzky teams or the Triple Crown teams. But they couldn't do what Brown could, which was win the Cup.

Also, one thing I forgot to say in the previous post was that as great as it was at the end of the game seeing the hugs from his teammates & especially Kopi & Quick, it did suck that Doughty couldn't be there to be a part of that since those 4 share so much history.

A couple of things stood out from the press conference. 1st is how much older his kids are. I remember those videos from years ago when they were just little kids. Now his son Jake is a teenager. Also I liked what he said about a team being like a ball of energy & you either take from it or add to it, and the great teams are the ones that add to it. And when they talked about winning it for Brown & he said yes but only because he's one of the guys, but really win it for the guys next to you. That is absolutely the right answer. That said, win it for Brownie.

My guess is that they won't get made for purchase. And if they do, they will likely be $150 range based on the company that made them and what their stuff sells for. They really need to get this kind of stuff out and available for a reasonable price...like under $50 so everyone can buy and support Brownie. Heck, make all the proceeds go to Kings Care. They won't do that though cuz profit
