Elliotte Friedman: Chychrun May Be Available

It will be an interesting time for sure when Byfield comes back.
I don't think we have to wait very long. After coming back he started slow, but he's not slow anymore. If he keeps going the way he has been lately, he may be playing his last couple of games in the A.

IMO, the Kings have a championship 4th line. We don't have champion 1-3 lines but #4 is great. Kaliyev is an offensive threat every time he touches the puck. Pepe is an antagonist. And Lizotte is constantly in motion and making things happen at both ends of the ice. Lizotte reminds me a bit of Quick right now. Remember how Quick was the placeholder until Bernier came in and we had a goaltender with pedigree to lead us? Lizotte is the 4C placeholder but I don't see how you get him out of the lineup right now. I'm not long on Lizotte but I cannot see sitting him while the 4th line is playing so well.

I'm looking for people to sit when QB is ready to play and I think Kupari is the logical candidate. Moore would have been but he's been excellent on the 2nd line. So I would not sit him even though I don't think he is a long-term fit in the top 6.

Lizotte reminds me of Quick in his current form too - he absolutely will not give up his spot to a younger player.

In 30 games this season:
-4g, 6a. Good for 25+ points over 82.
-53.94% FO
-+8
-32 hits
-9 takeaways (just 4 giveaways)
-11:55 average TOI

Sure he?s the 3rd line center right now, but what more could you want from a 4th line center? Plus he fights hard for pucks, anchors a line that totally lifts other lines up when they lag, and brings needed personality.

He?s setting the bar plenty high for JAD or whomever else to take his spot - but I?ll admit I?m not totally convinced that will happen. And I wanted him to get picked by SEA!

As for QB coming back, agreed with the rest here that it really does force the Brown question. If Kupari and Turcotte play like they did last night, well?

Im thinking Turcotte-Byfield-Kempe would be even awesomer...

Maybe next year we'll get to see Byfield and Kempe. I'd try Kupari on the other wing. All three with size, speed, hands & vision.

This season, I kinda like 19-11-9 and wouldn't want to break that up. Iafallo wasn't up to speed last game. He should be sharper on Thursday.

But 39, 55 and 89 have all played together in Ontario. Could be some chemistry already there.

realistically, i agree. With kempe being one of the few guys to slot in well with Kopitar, i think he should probably remain.

But deep down, and given how Kopitar and Brown are currently playing along with the history of Iaffalo/Kopitar/brown, i do wonder if they can rekindle some mojo there. There's also the obvious issue of making sure your top scorer is getting enough minutes, but dammit if a line of Turc/Byfield/Kempe isnt really enticing. It gives the Kings a pretty balanced lineup from the top 9, and would force most teams to really have to pick their poison.

Dare to dream

I meant to post this earlier but got stuck at work. Many of the same thoughts as everyone else today...

When Byfield is ready for the NHL (and I think that should be sooner rather than later since it looks like he's knocked the rust off in the AHL), then who do you sit? Is it Byfield centering Turcotte and Brown? Or do you roll a first round line of Turcotte with Byfield and Kupari? Either that or you wait and see if Moore fizzles in a few weeks and you can bump him off of line 2. AA is still a candidate to play (or be traded) once he is healthy. Frk probably COVID'ed himself out of his last good chance with the Kings.

The Kings really need to rethink the PP. That PP1 is atrocious. There was a span in the third where we were trying to run the bumper but Doughty was in the left faceoff circle with Kempe at the top of the umbrella and Kopi in the right faceoff circle and it was just Kopi and Kempe playing catch. PP1 also struggles so much to get a controlled zone entry. I've said it a million times that Kempe is the only guy on PP1 who can bring the puck into the zone. That group is a mess right now.

All of the forward jumble really makes jt's case to go big on a trade for Chychrun. It is also refreshing to be figuring out which first round draft pick we should sit (or franchise stalwart) rather than deciding between Amadio, Wagner, and Lizotte.

don't you think he should get some more time in Ontario? Or do you want him to come up and break his other ankle?

I think it's time for him to break his arm

why would you want him to break his arm? Is that like saying "go break a leg"? Go break an arm? I would really like to see QB take over when Kopitar's gone because, well, I feel that's when he'll be ready to take over. As for Turcotte, the guy's coming around bit by bit. I think he'll be ready for second line center duty by the end of the season. That'll give us:

Arvy - Kopi - Iafallo
Kempe - Turc - Fagemo
Moore - Danault - Kupari
Lemmy - Lizzo - Kaliyev

I think this lineup is where it's at. This is money right here. That second line will kill it. The first line will get their share and the third line will check like crazy. I'd love to see this. Fagemo has really impressed in his first game. Guy's got it. Excited to see what he could do the rest of the season. Kaliyev is killing it. He's really impressing me. The only one that's not impressing me, and I hope is not in TM's dog house is Kupari. I think he could use some more time in the A. Kupari has shown flashes of brilliance and domination, but only flashes. The rest of the time he's a non-factor and it's like "why are you doing that Kupari" or "why aren't you doing that Kupari"? This team is coming together well, question is, who do you deal? Trading can create a lot of baggage. It can create hostilities and fear among the group. Blake's gotta do this right. It's gotta be done with precision. Trade for a physical middle weight for the bottom six and get a physical defenseman. These are two tasks that I'd like to see Blake complete by the year's end or by next offseason. Also, letting Brown go could spell disaster for this team, that's why I said get a middle weight in our bottom six. Someone to throw the weight around. Get er done Blake!

they already tried arvidsson up with kopitar and it did not look good. He's found a home on the 2nd line, so im not sure why you break that up. Same with Kempe playing with Kopitar. Additionally, Turc and Kupari still need time on the 3rd line. Not sure why you want break up what's been working, and working well.

The way they’re playing now, I see no reason for a trade. Let’s see how far this wave will take them, then reassess and trade during the offseason.

I'm not so sure Klinberg would be such a good idea. He's going to need a big-money, long-term deal and he's 29 already.

I concur.

Which might be OK. I would look at any Chychrun deal AS the "deadline" move...because beyond that really only true Cup contenders get involved and the Kings are far from that. This is a move for the future....

jom

It’s a move for now and the future, and why it’s worth 4 assets.

the discussion was about cap space, not assets. If we trade for Chych, we will basically be right up against the cap.

Until the summer. Make the move. Blake needs to get in front of the deadline, and Overpay to do it. This is a deal where you empty the clip to get the player, and sit back on deadline day and drink coffee.

What a difference a week makes. Still think we should sit back and watch?

Yes, at least until closer to the trade deadline. Losing games to two cup contenders (TB and COL) is no reason to make a panic move. The wave may be cresting, but it doesn't mean they can't recover and catch another one. The road trip will be very telling.

NHL channel says that the Kings are one of 4 team that have made a legit offer for Chychrun

I hope they bring up Johan Sodergran, not a defenseman but good size as a forward.

Not exactly news, but HNIC said: ”They do have that [offer] from one team in the NHL as we speak now, essentially two former first-round players and a first-round draft pick.”

In my humble opinion Arizona will not do this without Clarke being included. Plus most likely two of Turcotte, Vilardi or Kupari. And on top of that the 22 first round pick. That’s a lot to pay, but Arizona will not give a player like that away without a king’s ransom… ;-)
