Elliotte Friedman: Chychrun May Be Available

Did you see the Tweet I posted when I asked Dennis Bernstein about this:

2. Check shooting percentages of defense:
2 players are 0.0 (Roy/Bjornfot) another 3.0 (Maatta)
1G on 191 shots
So... why I advocate for Chychrun

No for sure. I’ve been mentioning the lack of production from the blue line since around the 12 game mark of the season. Kings rank near the bottom in blue line offense. That and the special teams are the weak points for this team. Look at any other team around the kings standings and it’s a substantial difference.

The forward group is carrying this team.

That's a great point. As much of a pleasant surprise as he was, I'm not sure we want Edler back at 75% mobility. He was useful, but he wasn't exactly dynamic before that major injury.

When he went down, I thought the conversation was "season ending", maybe even "career ending". Has there been any recent updates?

Taking with a grain of salt since it was the Ducks broadcast team last night but they were discussing Blyfield's injury and mentioned that he was able to return faster since his was a break while Elder had a bad High Ankle Sprain and had the damage to the ligaments which may keep him out for the remainder of the regular season.

My offer would be . . .

Turcotte, 1 of: Faber OR Grans (let Arizona choose), and Vilardi,
plus Maata
and the Kings' 2023 1st pick.

No Byfield or Clarke.

That's a huge overpay. A top 5 pick, a top 10 pick and two middle first rounders? (Faber absolutely would be a top 15 pick in a draft redo...)

For a guy that had an outlier season in an actually more generally outlier season that was pretty much a throwaway? He put those numbers up against a bunch of horrible teams at the time.

And who knows? The D is playing really well, and you have 3 of our Dmen still on upward trajectories. Toby, Durzi, and Anderson should all be expected to improve over the coming seasons, that bodes really well and Clarke is going to take the team by storm by hook or by crook.

Maybe our biggest need is a winger for Byfield? I see that as absolutely essential. That's who I go all in for personally. A younger player on a manageable deal with proven NHL performance. Or you put said winger on the first line and drop Iafallo, whatever. We are still an elite winger short. Our D is looking very good and will only get better over the years.

At this point I will take one impact forward that can consistently score 30plus goals over chychrun any day. Iafallo is not a fist line player more suited for third line / border line 2 line player. Love Trevor Moore but he is not a goal scorer either .

If we were to offer that package in trade our return has to be much greater.

But, he fits like a glove with Viktor & Phil. That line drives our engine and I wouldn't touch it this season.
Moore, or Iaffalo, replacing Brown on the 3rd line is ideal.
Going forward, our options are so exciting to think about. In the not too distant future, Vilardi & Kaliyev will be top 6 wingers.
I wouldn't even be upset if we made no major moves by the deadline. Let this group play it out.

I think he has to change Roy's shooting percentage...mhihi:mhihi:

Chych has 2 goals against the Wings tonight.

And the Kings have two scouts at the Kraken/Leafs game ... Giordano?

Edler will be fresh by the time he comes back. The Kings defense is pretty good, no need to give up the farm for a player at the deadline. Wait until after the season. Hopefully Doughty will be OK.

For what it's worth, Chychrun now has 5 goals and 14 assists in 45 games. He's a -23. I think at one point he was as low as a -31.

He’s heading back to Arizona with an upper body injury. Looks like it’s unlikely this deal gets done before the deadline.

The pieces the Kings might have used in a trade for Chychrun may now be needed to ice a full NHL roster... 7 starters sidelined for indefinite periods is an extraordinary situation.
