Elliotte Friedman: Chychrun May Be Available

Fair enough, although lots of ginders have elite level hockey IQ like, say, Trevor Lewis. And while Turcotte has a good shot, can he translate it to the NHL when EVERYONE is playing at full speed? I haven't seen enough Reign games but what I've read is that he's a front-of-the-net player and that's one reason he's injured so much. As much as I like that, it means he'll probably be injured a lot since he's not a big guy.

I guess what makes me possibly underestimate his talent is that he's not showing it in the AHL. 9G and 22A for 31P in 50 games in the AHL isn't very impressive.

Yeah but is he surrounded by talent on the Reign? My guess is that Byfield takes up that 2nd center spot and gets the leftover talent on his wings. Turcotte is probably left with tertiary talent on the wings. I really think Turcotte will be a great player in the league, given the time to develop properly.

Tertiary? Are you Anthony Stewart?

He was mostly playing with Madden and Vilardi. If those guys are tertiary on the f'n Reign that says a ton about their prospects.

Vilardi has now become a point/game player in Ontario. 8 G, 12 A, 20 points in 20 GP. Looks as though he is adapting to playing on the wing just fine.

Yeah, that was actually my point. Madden and Villardi damn well better be good linemates!!

That is excellent news. Both from the versatility/hockey IQ perspective of successful switch to wing and from confidence perspective, given his sophomore slump with the Kings.

the -2 is a little concerning though given his defensive play was a large part of the demotion.

No I meant that he was liable to play in LA with leftover players. Not in Ontario. I don't know who he's playing with in Ontario, I guess it's as you say, Madden and Vilardi. It'd be nice to see that kid develop. We need the heart.

Sorry don't see it. 4th line has a combined 20 goals and Pepe missing games due to the suspension. They have plenty of heart, as does Danaults line.

Heart in the top 6? Who has heart? Kopi? Arvy? Danault is a 3rd line center. Don't make the argument that he's a 2nd line center. He can fill in for 2nd line, but he's not. So that leaves Turcotte in the top 6, who would lay down his life for the team. We need that.

Vilardi potted 2 more tonight. Reign are back in first place in their division. Pipeline seems to be functioning as it should in a quality organization.

But he is still -1...

man i hope he can polish up his effort and board work because the Kings would LOVE to have that skill right about now.

Fair enough. At the beginning he was playing with Tkachev and Kaliyev or Moore, then Grundstrom and Lizotte, and then he was a healthy scratch and had covid when TM said he was going to healthy scratch him anyway. Then he went to Ontario after the 11/13 game.

While I agree with you that he wasn't playing with high end talent, that's how lots of players get broken in, even the highest end talent like Thornton and Marleau. IMO, his problem wasn't that he was playing with lower end players, it's that he wasn't playing well enough to earn being moved up to play with higher end talent. Even when he got his shifts with Kopi he just wasn't played quality hockey.

Here's who has heart: Kopi, Iafallo, Arvidsson, Danault, Brown, Moore, Lizotte, and Lemieux inarguably have incredible heart. I'd add Kempe, and Grundstrom but it doesn't even matter if they don't because so many forwards do.

And the facts disagree with you. Danault was the 1st line center on a Stanley Cup Finals team. If you can name 62 (or even 32) centers better than him, then sure, he's a 3rd line center. But you can't because there aren't. Danault is a 2nd line center...and a 2nd line center on a quality playoff team.

Turcotte may lay down his life for the team but that's not what this team needs. They need forwards who contribute offensively and until Turcotte can do that, he doesn't belong in the top 6...or even the top 9.

not really worth making a second thread, and this seemed like maybe the best spot for it. Im posting this mainly for the stats/review of guys like Danault, Arvidsson, Lizotte, etc... Danault and Arvidsson both seem to be severely underrated around here.

IMO Athanasiou is still a good signing, however injuries etc... derailed his season so far. The team is in need of his speed, skill and toughness. Lots of our prospects have speed and skill, but lack some of the toughness.

Been a proponent of both him and wolanin.

AA definitely brings an element that the Kings need. Im sort of ambivalent on his signing though. At the time, i think it was the right move. Now, with him out basically all season so far, it's showing us that it's probably going to be inconsequential. The prospects have stepped in and done a decent job. Ultimately, i dont think its worth grading AA until the season is over, because a lot could change between now and then, and so far there's simply nothing to go on.

With that said, it's Danault and Arvidsson that i think deserve more attention. They've both been excellent so far.

Totally agree with kingnut that AA was a good signing (at the time) as well as your point that we will need the remainder of the season to really evaluate him due to lack of games played this season.

That said, 100% agree on the A+ rating for Danault - the organization had high expectations for him coming and in he has exceeded those expectations. Really hope we do not trade Turcotte but if we do it is largely due to Danualt making him expendable.

Arvidsson, on the other hand, I feel doesn't really warrant an "A" rating. I had pretty low expectations for him coming in and have to admit he has been much better than I thought he'd be. He hustles, shows a lot of energy and seems to have a lot of passion for the game which is contagious, he's fearless when it comes to driving to the net and working on the boards (my main concern would be that this would not be the case), he shoots (which the Kings desperately need) is an above average passer, has bought in defensively and he's fast. On the flip side he shoots a lot of poor angle shots (even when a pass is available to a wide open teammate), has a dismal shooting percentage, and gets separated from the puck easier than the average teammate. Overall I'd give him a B mainly due to the dismal shooting percentage.

On a side note, I'd also give Edler (B+) and Lizotte (B-) an A. Edler stepped up and was key while Doughty was out, and Lizotte has really taken his game to the next level this season.

Arvidsson, on the other hand, I feel doesn't really warrant an "A" rating.

I think the grades take more into account than just, "how well is this guy playing". He's making 4.3mil, but contributing like a 7.6mil player. And we got him, as a top six forward, for a 2nd and 3rd round pic? That's fantastic value. So i think the "A" grade reflects more about his overall value, and the move to get him, than it does simply ranking him as a player. I do not disagree with the A rating at all. You can live with his volume shooting because he's bringing offensive production, good possession, and solid D. Not a lot of guys have that combination.

Getting hung up on his shooting%/less than ideal shot angles i think misses the forrest for the trees.
