FA 2025 (lets get the discussions in one thread)

I suspect I might be one of very few here, but I actually like the Perry signing. Yes, of course I know he’s an ex-Duck and that he’s still an a-hole but both Florida and Edmonton has shown us that you need to have a few crazy, cheating criminals on your team to win in the playoffs…

Gavrikov is going to NYC to play on their top pairing on a contract with 7 years of term. We know neither Blake nor Holland offered him that term. We also know Gavrikov was seeking stability (term). Blake and Holland thought they could buy him off with bigger AAV and Gavrikov said no.

Another unforced error by this front office.

I'm not sure I know that, but maybe I'm not as clued in as everyone else. Didn't Holland say a bunch of times it wasn't about term, it was about dollars, and they offered more a couple times? If it was only about term, and Holland said term wasn't the issue, he's either an idiot or a liar.

Edit: An article from last week said they were prepared to offer a long term deal. Blake offered it, Holland extended it, so maybe I'm wrong and they weren't offering a full seven or eight years.

I think we have about $15 million is cap space left with Laferriere still to sign. Technically more than that since Perry's bonuses if earned can be applied to the following season's cap if necessary.

Feels good to get one right.

Holland specifically used the phrase “extended the offer” when asked about his follow ups to Blake’s original offer. Meaning Blake’s offer didn’t have the amount of term necessary to get the deal done.

Holland also said he hadn’t heard back from Gavrikov’s agent in response to his revised offers. Meaning the agent presented his clients demand and Holland did not want to meet them.

The offer that Gavrikov signed had 7 years term. Ultimately that was his demand. Now it’s possible he never wanted to stay in LA but all indicators prior to the end of the playoffs pointed to Gavrikov being very happy in LA but he wanted long term stability because he’d never had a contract longer than 3 years.

I can't stand him but he's exactly the kind of grit you want on the 4th line.
