FA 2025 (lets get the discussions in one thread)

Not sure I agree with all the doom and gloom around here. Yea we all wanted a splash with Marner or Boeser. But in the end we had 105 points last season and without a large amount of unfortunate events going against us(both mental decisions bad luck) in the Edmonton series likely would have made a run. Gavrikov was good but not great. I'd argue at this point our third D pairing is better including guys that can play the PK and help keep our top guys more rested. Clark is going to get more playing time which many here wanted. Our fourth line is bigger and tougher to play against, and our backup goalie is MUCH better than last year. It's not the splash I was hoping for but the writing the season off already rhetoric seems a bit much.

Not sure how Dumoulin will work out. But I see Utah signing Schmidt to 3 years @ 3.5M per, so? I am worried about Moverare not getting the ice time he likely deserves. He's played well mostly and occasionally played the right side as well.

Hopefully Doughty will have a healthy season. Not expecting a Norris type season, but him being healthy and not needing to play him 26+ minutes every night will be a good thing. Maybe he can produce on the PP again.

All these signings remind me of the summer of 2007, when DL signed like 5 people (such as Kyle Calder and Handzus). He openly said at the time it was a bad sign, because it illustrated the holes the Kings had at the time. He was right.
I thought the same thing earlier this morning when I saw the signings. It definitely reminded me of that UFA signing day. However, those guys were brought to supplement a very young, inexperienced, and bad roster at the time. If you could’ve added Nagy, Calder, and Handzus to the current 105 point kings roster, which had too many holes and got exposed for need to shelter players, how would you feel about it?

Offensively, and I think some chips may still fall there via trade, I think we are just as good if not better than last season. 4th line should grind other teams and is better than a Lewis led 4th line. Concern, as many have said, is the defense. Just hope they aren't so slow that McDavid just skates circles around them more than he already does.

What’s funny about days like this where the Kings have no problem signing multiple guys to contracts is in 2 months everyone will go back to saying no free agent wants to sign in LA.

This sums up my feelings, mostly.

I wanted a top 6 scorer but realistically there wasn’t anyone the Kings were going to get today. Marner wanted Vegas, Boeser wanted to stay. Never figured Ehlers would come here.

I also wanted Byram or Miller. That’s my bigger disappointment. I think we have two good LD3 now, not a legit LD2.

But overall, this team’s top 9 player really well against Edmonton until they tired out. Hiller has a lineup he will trust now. And yeah I’m looking forward to seeing Perry p*ss people off. I admit it.

I’m definitely thinking Forward. I highly doubt Dallas trades Robertson to a contender in-conference.

My guess is Laf is the main piece going out. Maybe with Moore. For a top 6 winger. I really hope it isn’t Rust or Rakell coming back the other way.
Moore clears you $4.2M in cap space though. I don't buy the in conference thing that much. Clear out Moore and you could afford Ehlers or Robertson. Probably a pipe dream though.

Ehlers hasn't signed anywhere yet, not announcing anything until tomorrow. Wonder if its a negotiation tactic or to align with a team moving out some money at the same time (looking at you Kings and Moore).

Laff could be due for a breakout season. You have to hold on to him for one more year.

Trade Moore or Phil + Portillo (he has no pathway now...) + Pinelli...

If you trade Phil you yeet Turcotte into 3C and pray. High risk + high reward.
