FA 2025 (lets get the discussions in one thread)

Haha.
That's a good way to watch it, sure makes it more compelling. And the music is tits.
Salieri was no Mozart but, the list of composers he taught/influenced is impressive...
Liszt, Schubert, Beethoven, Eberl, Hummel and Mozart himself.
Solid info on Antonio Salieri, feeling more cultured already. But taking this metaphor even further (since trolling the internet and seeing Vegas' line combos) I'm wondering if Ken Holland would mind dressing up like Mitch Marner's father's ghost and gaslighting him into an early grave? He seems like the perfect choice.

They are never able to sign A tier UFAs. They sign your Edmundsons, Foegels, Danaults and Cicis. And yes, often have to overpay those B and C tier UFAs the contracts for Edmundson and Cici.
I distinctly remember thinking post 2014 that our legacy was established and our rep would change to a premier FA destination, then the pool party, the argument after the Christmas party and the incident at the border turned everything upside down. Now it seems like that era never happened and we're the Kings of the purple, black and silver again.

Holland is going to completely ruin the Kings at least until 2028 when these terrible contracts are up. Maybe for longer depending on what he does after today.

In the end, a lot of people here were correct about Luc being the one that needed to go. Now we’re stuck with Holland.

Anderson-Doughty
Dumoulin-Ceci
Edmundson-Clarke

By far one of the worse D corps in the NHL. 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

I think it is similar to the D last year. Dumoulin is a similar player to Gavy. Call that a wash. Ceci and Spence had different skill sets, but you can also look at that as a wash. Now, Clarke is the only D that you might question playing 20+ minutes a night. More penalty killers will help. Less skill will hurt the breakouts and puck retrievals.

Perry and Armia are an upgrade over Lewis and Jeannot. Is this a big step up, a big improvement? Not really, but the upgrades are not insignificant either.

IMO, of course.

People overreact every year we get a D and rarely are they bad. If it's one things the Kings are generally good at, it's making defencemen and goalies better than they were previously known for.
True.
I recall the meltdown when Willie Mitchell came here on a two-year deal. No one wanted Rob Scuderi. And I don’t think anyone knew Aaron Miller even while they criticized that move.
It’s absolutely true that the Kings under a variety of GM’s have acquired defensive players that play well here.

Hoping that Moverare is the 7th d-man. I really don't think anyone other than he and Turcotte would get claimed on that list. If I'm wrong about Lee there should be a 14th forward spot for him.

Russell Morgan is claiming that Turcotte is penciled in as the 4th line center, not Helenius.
Hasn’t Moverare slipped through waivers the last couple years at least once?
But to the point, the Kings do not have defensive depth in the system. Moverare needs to be protected. They can’t risk losing him.
Turcotte would definitely not clear.
Not sure if Lee would clear or not. Hasn’t played much and wasn’t noticeable when he did. But I think he might have some interest.

I hate when we're listed as the poster child of what not to do. Last it was draft people mentioning the idiotic Hiller challenge as a recent bad move (thanks NHL radio). Today the Chicago Sun Times is dunking on the Kings FA approach.

I much prefer the Kings to be underdogs. Let them bark away.

I'm on board with the 2012 scenario. Mid season deadline acquisition in line of Kuz last year and a coach change. Do it, Ken!

With two big dudes to protect him and ability to generate decent offense I really hope that's true. It could work wonders.

Mallot/Lee and Helenius as extras waiting for the opportunities (it would be wise if Hiller doesn't play Perry the entire reg.season).

Moverare should also often replace one of the vets in the D to not run them into the ground...let Burroughs be exposed to waivers.

Raise your hand if you felt last year that the Edmunson signing was a terrible signing by the Kings? I should see about 30 or more hands rise up.
Edmundson set a career high for games played and tied a career high for points. He basically had his best season in the NHL at age 31. He’s literally the #1 candidate on the roster for regression.

I give him full credit for having a damn fine year but his contract is still a disaster.

Well, Holland wanted to go "big game hunting and didn't do it via July 1 FA". IMO, he improved our 3/4th lines and 5-6 D pairings. Kings have about $6.7M in cap space left and need to sigh Laffy.
So, what's next?
Go into next season as is. Hope guys stay healthy and have better than average years?
Unless Holland has a big trade in the works I think this is the only course.
Would he have loaded up on those D if he had a Byram deal brewing? IDK.

So what I am gathering with the current moves in free agency over the last couple of years points to a massive failure by Blake to draft and develop NHL level D prospects.
Clarke is their only positive while the last wave have moved on (Walker, Roy, Spence).
There is not a single D man on Ontario ready or talented enough to challenge for the 7th spot on our current roster. Kirsanov may be their best if he does stay over (is in development camp for the first time).
So this has lead to the deals we just signed and the fact they are multi year contracts tells me they don't expect any of the last few drafts to be developed for several years.

Is it tho? Back when we grabbed Mitchell and Scuderi, the salary cap was ~ $60M. It’s now 50% higher, and the floor is $10M above the cap from back then.

So to compare them, what percentage of your cap to you dedicate to a player? Doughty is about 13%. Ceci is 5%, Anderson 4.6%, Dumoulin 4.4%, Edmundson 4.2%, Clarke is 2%. Total for the group is about 33%.
