Yeah I agree. Announcement was specific about regular season and a re-evaluation. Don’t see how he could be ready in that event.
I do know he had a broken leg in playoffs with Nashville and took him a season or two to get back to normal.

I broke my tibia just above my ankle and had two screws put in because my leg twisted during the break, so it was going to heal crookedly without surgery. No ligament damage. Crutches for 12 weeks, no weight bearing for 6 of them. Hopefully this is something just like that. Sounds like it could be.

Fiala is such a mixed bag. I feel like he's the most creative offensive mind on the team. At the same time, he's terrible defensively and tends to take bone head penalties in the offensive zone. Now, Bread will step into the role of best offensive player on the team. The question is, does he do defense? Does Bread take rando penalties? Didn't watch the Rags, so I don't really know his game. I wish Fiala the best, tough injury. Still to be honest, even with Fiala, I didn't see this team making the playoffs. I have less hope now.

I don’t think it’s the cash itself anyone is worried about. We know organizations carry insurance for exact instances like this, where a player gets injured, yet they have to continue paying his contract. Ownership has insurance to cover Kevin’s money, so an acquired player costing 7 mill is just a wash in terms of actual dollars.

The point is, to fill that $7.8 million of cap Space, Holland is going to have to trade future assets to bring a player in.. is that really what you want the Kings to be doing at this point? Spending extra future assets(and probably overpaying at that), for a chance to squeak into the playoffs and get bounced in the first round again?

We all watched the last two games the Kings played, and I got to see the Seattle game in person. These were big Pacific Division rivals that Kings needed at least a split with, however, the Kings got smoked by both teams. Adding Panarin isn't going to help them win these games. The Kings were outplayed in every facet of the game. This is why I question what Holland is doing. Adding a goal wasn't going to beat these two teams that are ahead of the Kings. Las Vegas was missing half of their lineup, and they had zero problem dismantling the Kings.

Holland's contract is for three years. He is obviously not going to rebuild, so he will give his best effort to retool, hoping he will somehow get to the playoffs and shock the world by winning a series, all the while not worried about the lasting effects on the franchise. I had already accepted the trades that were coming, the futility the next four years, and the three Pacific division league last place finishes. My only concern was the drafting and would the Kings "Brass" screw it up. Panarin was a great scorer, however, I don't see him making others better and that is what the Kings needed, players that make others better.

This is how it goes in hockey. I broke my leg playing about 10 years ago, and I was out for something like 3 months. I still have the titanium brace in my leg. These things happen. I understand that everyone is really bummed out about the loss of Fiala, but if I had the opportunity to play for the US I'd do it in a heartbeat. It's an honor that sometimes never happens, even for the best players in the sport like Ovechkin. I wish Fiala a speedy and full recovery. The game will be here when he gets back.

All the more impetus to move Drew in March… and reasonable Panarin contract softens the blow from Pete’s contract. Kings should be looking to move Foegele and/or Moore as well at the draft. We’re not making the playoffs without replacing his offense. To do that, we may need to leverage his cap space.

The org has more info about the injury than we do and I’m sure that will help dictate what they do with Fiala’s cap space. And we have no idea what will happen with the roster between now and the playoffs re any other injuries.
I think if the right deal is there the org has to make the deal and worry about the cap if the playoffs happen. I think there is enough dead weight on this roster to find a way to activate Fiala if it comes to that.

My only issue is with him being elite at this point of his career. I hope I am wrong; however, I just don't see it. We will soon see if he makes other players around him better. I am hoping so.

I find that what he lacks is hockey sense. He actually has elite skill, but without a great hockey brain it only does so much. I often look at Byfield similarly and feel like that’s where the scouts really made the wrong pick - because Stutzle has great hockey sense. He may even have less skill than Byfield, but he knows what to do with his skill.

I find that what he lacks is hockey sense. He actually has elite skill, but without a great hockey brain it only does so much. I often look at Byfield similarly and feel like that’s where the scouts really made the wrong pick - because Stutzle has great hockey sense. He may even have less skill than Byfield, but he knows what to do with his skill.

I was hoping the Kings would pick Byfield on draft day but the day of the draft both Stutzle and Byfield was interviewed and wow - Stutzle blew me away. That guy just has a very high IQ overall, so it makes sense it would translate on the ice.
