FIRST ROUND: Kings Vs. Oilers

We really drew the worst opponent. I'm watching all these other series and seeing bad hockey. This would be like facing Chicago in round 1 in 2014. Whoever wins this series should be a favorite for the conference finals and Cup unless they get a bad injury in the elimination game.

Too bad the Kings didn't draw a wild card slot.

I agree!! I keep saying this would be the best series to watch if you didn't care who wins. Haven't gotten to see any Stars/Wild, though. That one might be fun since they play very different styles?

I wanted to play literally anyone but the Oilers. Just for something different. I really am not a fan of the slaughterhouse powerplay thing they got going, along with super dirty play. It barely feels like hockey sometimes against them.

Well here we are...backs against the wall.

Game 5 was a hard one to watch...and not only because I was watching on ESPN and they've got one serious Oiler fanboi for a color commentator. If I hear one more time that they "looked scared" my head just might explode. These are grown-ass men, they were not scared. Yes, they were too timid, too defensive, and looked like they were coming off a late night of drinking. Did TM make them run all the way to Edmonton?

I was really against this long break between 5 & 6, but am now very appreciative of it. Give them some serious time to figure their crap out and be ready to bring everything they have into the next game. If we can't come into game 6 with some fire for a full 60, we frankly don't deserve it. A game 6 loss where we don't leave it all on the table simply has ZERO excuses.

I can only imagine that the even more passive approach they took was an attempt to handle their top forwards (intentionally unnamed, I'm tired of hearing about them), that instead of handcuffing them, handcuffed us. We learned that it's not a good strategy - chalk it up as a lesson learned and come into 6 with a new strategy (or two).

Speakings of lessons learned - the guys out there who proved to be more liability than asset have some time to sit with it. They HAVE to know that while the whole team lost, some on the team lost more than others. It is only under these kinds of situations where your level of resiliency is really proven, and I believe we have that in us.

Looking forward to the energy our guys will come out with Saturday!!

LETS GO KINGS!

So who wants to bet that the Kings will have a day game on Saturday. NYR and NJD are confirmed for 8 PM ET. With Kings and Oilers on a 3 day break my guess is the get the early time slot...... maybe best hope for a late start is all the other teams force a game 6 (Jets and Lightning).

Drew has to be so much better. Seemed to me he was in a trance all game last night and couldn't switch gears.

Anyone else notice how stiff he was?

They were clearly emotionally drained after squandering game 4.
Now they have enough time to rest & adjust and come back strong.
Nothing is over, we've shown we have too much heart to lie down.

Game 6 is a 7pm start on Saturday. Thank goodness it's not a day game. Supposed to be like 95 degrees on Saturday. Also....I have work in the day.

I just wonder what Todd was saving his timeout for in game four - July?
Everyone who has been around the block knew after period 1 that period 2 would decide the series.
If they went out and laid an egg and coughed up the lead, you knew it was over.
So when they came out the way they did and looked like, as a friend called it, "fourth graders chasing a puck," you call a timeout, you change the rotations, you do whatever you have to do to nip in the bud because those 20 minutes were the season.

Amen, glad I was wrong on my guess of a day game.

My number one Todd grievance by a mile is his refusal to call time-outs when the team is on its heels. I just don’t get it.

Well you saw what happened in Game 5 when he finally did start to make changes, it was deck chairs on the titanic time. Sutter had a way to push the button with the group he had, Todd doesn't have that knack, nor am I sure there's a players button that can be pushed. Gabe and Fiala and Durzi seem to be the most likely candidates to raise their game from whatever depth it's reached. I'm not sure VA, Kopitar, Danault ever fall off enough to regress in a meaningful way to the mean, and they're already giving so much that is there really a higher high?

Seems Kings being hush on the line pairings from practice today.................
