I was one of the few that liked Robbie. He showed fire, passion, was a disciplinarian, didn't care what his players thought, etc. Exactly what this team needs now.Robbie Ftorek!

They could fire Hiller and promote Newell as the interim coach just to shake things up. What will happen is the Kings will go on a run, make the playoffs get bounced out early, the players will say we want him to be the coach, and this thing starts all over again.I think the only reason they have not fired Hiller is that they are holding out for Deboer who will not coach this season so I do not think either will coach.
Ken has been a GM for decades overall and he has never appointed an interim coach as far as I know. They could fire Hiller and promote Newell as the interim coach just to shake things up. god help us all. But Luc is dumb enough to do it.They could fire Hiller and promote Newell as the interim coach just to shake things up. Not going to happen this year, if so, it would have happened already. I think Holland is looking at this as lost year whether they make playoffs or not.Either one?
This aligns with my hopes and expectations. People can knock Holland but all of the forward acquisitions plus Forsberg have been grade A.Not going to happen this year, if so, it would have happened already. I think Holland is looking at this as lost year whether they make playoffs or not.
I think he's looking at the next 2 years and will hire a coach who has won and will do the heavy retooling in summer geared towards those 2 years, already started with Panarin and will either hit the center position before deadline or during the summer. I think then he'll work on the D core, especially the left side, getting more mobile and D that push the play.
Because sweater is better.Robbie Ftorek!
Frolov agrees.Because sweater is better.
Grade A in terms of depth signings, agreed. Rob had those too, though. This aligns with my hopes and expectations. People can knock Holland but all of the forward acquisitions plus Forsberg have been grade A.
Dumoulin was a solid backup plan when Gavy chose to leave but he has been really disappointing this year. I don’t really hold that against Holland. But it is true he will need to make a move as savvy on D as he has for other positions.

I'd also say the Dum is playing exactly like he had been when we acquired him, so if there is any disappointment there it is due to unrealistic expectations. Ceci has been disappointing.
Can't blame him for Gavy not wanting to resign, but Spence for a 3rd was a low spot.
The high spot, so far, was getting Panarin to choose to come to the Kings. Whether or not that trade ends well, this is the first time, in quite awhile, that a top player has chosen to come to the Kings - the importance of which cannot be overstated.
This doesn’t conflict with anything I said, although perhaps my expectations for Dumoulin were too high. Point being he’s shown enough smarts in the 9 months he’s been here that it’s reasonable to expect him to make additional smart moves while recognizing this season for what it is. The Panarin deal really solidified that we’re not misguided in having some hope.Grade A in terms of depth signings, agreed. Rob had those too, though.

Most everyone during the offseason was miffed by some of the signings by Holland. Nothing Holland did was spectacular. He signed the players he could sign. The UFA's were not coming to LA. He added veteran defensemen, nothing that will move the pendulum, however we expected that.
I don't see Panarin being the steal of the decade. Older player, playing on a team that should be better; however, they weren't. What will he bring to the Kings the same type of play he did for the Rangers this season? Each year he has been getting worse since his big 49 goal year. Last year he had 37 goals which is great and this year he had 19 in 52 games before he was traded. If he puts up 6-8 goals for the remainder of the season, that will be great.
Marner was out of his control. And using that as mark against him is just bad faith.Yeah, I don't see the supposed savvy of Ken. A lot he did was settling for something (much) less than we anticipated (Armia+Perry instead of Marner), or opportunity fell into his lap (Panarin). Then there's the head-scratching terms he gave to Dumo and Ceci.
It's completely reasonable to ask yourself if Rob would've done worse had he decided to not give up as I felt he had certain rapport with players and lacked the ego to do things his way no matter what. Maybe Phil situation wouldn't sour as bad. Maybe he would've even been able to resign Gavrikov, too.
Anyways, I'm not super confident with Ken. He's yet to do something that really impresses me. It is true though that he's yet to make as big of a mistake that Rob had done a couple of times, but that's really to be expected considering his extensive GMing experience.
