What is one big reason why the forwards, or defensemen are not generating as much offense this year?

The Kings have given up more goals this year so far, compared to how many fewer goals they have scored. Their scoring is down, but the D is down even more.
Here’s what Hiller said last night:

It’s not wrong to take issue with the defensive roster, but Hiller likes the way Dumoulin and Ceci play. Hiller does not value the ability to carry a puck out of the zone if a player doesn’t meet his preferred profile.

Hiller demands forwards help out the D. He spent last season trying to make Fiala a two-way player. He does not demand, or even desire, for the D to elevate their offensive contributions. He does not value defensemen who have offensive talent. Dumoulin has had some ability to move the puck throughout his career, especially early on. Hiller would rather not try and elevate that ability.

I would like a more balanced D with puck movers but even we had that Hiller wouldn’t play them to their strengths.

More proof that Hiller is a very Terry Murray-style coach, yet worse than him the way he coaches. Sure, the D is emphasized in his system but that really sucks out the opportunities the O should generate when they're on the attack. That's hardly a winning formula, especially in the playoffs. If he were a defensive coordinator in the NFL, then he'd be a genius. But this is not the NFL; the closest thing to a DC in the NHL would be the assistant coach and even that isn't a good comparison since the duties are much different. He's so stuck in the past that it makes me want to actively root against him even more.

It's not just Dumo suffering in this system. IMO Drew would benefit from matching up against lesser opposition, playing less total minutes and having more freedom to roam. Let the stay-at-homers deal with opposing top players. They're paid 4+ million / year to defend.
