Especially when the Ducks are missing so many players to injuries (Carlsson).

What is one big reason why the forwards, or defensemen are not generating as much offense this year?

The Kings have given up more goals this year so far, compared to how many fewer goals they have scored. Their scoring is down, but the D is down even more.
Here’s what Hiller said last night:

It’s not wrong to take issue with the defensive roster, but Hiller likes the way Dumoulin and Ceci play. Hiller does not value the ability to carry a puck out of the zone if a player doesn’t meet his preferred profile.

Hiller demands forwards help out the D. He spent last season trying to make Fiala a two-way player. He does not demand, or even desire, for the D to elevate their offensive contributions. He does not value defensemen who have offensive talent. Dumoulin has had some ability to move the puck throughout his career, especially early on. Hiller would rather not try and elevate that ability.

I would like a more balanced D with puck movers but even we had that Hiller wouldn’t play them to their strengths.

More proof that Hiller is a very Terry Murray-style coach, yet worse than him the way he coaches. Sure, the D is emphasized in his system but that really sucks out the opportunities the O should generate when they're on the attack. That's hardly a winning formula, especially in the playoffs. If he were a defensive coordinator in the NFL, then he'd be a genius. But this is not the NFL; the closest thing to a DC in the NHL would be the assistant coach and even that isn't a good comparison since the duties are much different. He's so stuck in the past that it makes me want to actively root against him even more.

It's not just Dumo suffering in this system. IMO Drew would benefit from matching up against lesser opposition, playing less total minutes and having more freedom to roam. Let the stay-at-homers deal with opposing top players. They're paid 4+ million / year to defend.

Any coach who likes the way doom-alin and ceci play has a problem.
Any GM who would sign those 2 guys to long term deals has a problem.

Also any coach who benches Clarke at the end of regulation to trot out Mike and Ceci to hold a lead has a problem. The Kings record at holding leads is not great, so maybe change it up.

I agree. The Kings need a legit #1 defensive defenseman to pair with Clarke. Drew and Mikey would be okay as the second pairing.

Mikey is considered a top tier defensive defenseman in the NHL currently and would do well paired with Clarke. It seems to me, what the Kings are lacking are mobile two-way defenseman and potentially a big heavy hitting presence on the blueline.

Wooley looks like a good future fit as a two-way defenseman (with size), and Brz projects to generate high offense but is currently on the weaker side within his own zone. What the Kings desperately need is a Sanderson/Harley/Chichryun type player (which, needless to say, are tough to find/acquire).

Hiller is among the most imperceptive, stubborn and arrogant coaches in recent memory. Reminds me of rigid Andy Murray during the 13-loss streak that ended the Season of Anson Carter - but without the school teacher foolishness.

We’ll get to see Woolley in Ontario next year while Brz remains in the OHL to work on the defensive side of his game. From what I saw at training camp, I think both guys will be solid NHL material. But the next couple of years look pretty bleak for the Kings blue line corps. And the Kings may lose most of their top assets and/or top draft choices in acquiring a 1C and a 1LD… Lombardi and Blake after him cursed the future of the team. I still think about having Cernak playing in a Kings uniform. That Bishop trade was Dean’s low point.

Acquiring a 1C and 1LS doesn't even sound possible or something you could recover from right now.
The holes would decimate the Kings for years,
So why bother we may not even make the playoffs.
So many teams bunched in the bubble asset competition will trigger all time high prices for what we need.
Best sit this one out and try to hold, players, prospects and picks, hoping they grow and supplement with whatever upgrades you can get as FA this Summer.

No one has said those acquisitions have to happen during this season. But they do have to happen before next season. If those deals don’t happen before then, the Kings would be faced with tearing it all down.

The Kings likely will never tear it down but retool to try to stay relevant and sell tickets.
1c and 1 d's likely want to come here free agent.
And traded players may request a trade.

Many of us have been singing a similar tune for a while. Problem is, Kings management does not want any part of a rebuild. So, we are forced to try and play in "that" reality.

There are not that many high end UFA's this year and teams will have a lot of cap space. This means there is going to be huge bidding wars on just a few players. There is that and the fact that many players do not seem to want to play for/in LA right now. Unless you are a big slow offensively inept defensemen. They seem to love it here.

I really hope the Kings keep sucking and losing which could force a selloff/rebuild on management. Otherwise, they will waste what few assets they have on the wrong players and in the end the team will not be any better.

Rough times ahead either way.

FA’s get screwed by the highest tax rate in the US for ‘millionaires’. WTH would they want to come here and deal with losing income that they could be keeping in another state?

It’s the same argument from years ago about the $CAD vs $USD. Players were paid the same numerical amount, but the $USD had more value. So playing in Canada meant potentially losing money they could be making playing for a US team.
