It’s deadline season!

He’s got 34 points in 49 games this season, woof. Then again, he’s still the leading scorer on an absolutely abysmal Canucks team, so it’s hard to judge. Maybe it’s worth a shot if Holland can make a -very- shrewd deal here..

It’s gotta be for lots of picks. Like our next 3 1st rounders, both the defensive prospects, and one of the goalies

Do not want him. He’s not the answer. I don’t think he is close to being worth what the cost is. And I don’t think his game is playoff caliber.

I definitely wouldn’t give up that amount. In my opinion, he’s diminished goods and Vancouver knows it. I’d maybe do 2026 1st and 2nd, Sluykynsky, Brzust.

Or some of our middlin forwards in the AHL rather than the above prospects, if we can pawn Chromiak and Pinelli off instead(extremely unlikely I know), but that would really take Holland putting the screws to the Van GM. I wouldn’t be game for sending more than one 1st rounder away, simply because, we could end up out of the playoffs the next few years and there’s a real chance those could be top 10 picks.

I would see if the Blues would part with Thomas before making a deal with the Canucks. But I would also be happy if the deal for Pettersson is the best available option. The 1C void must be addressed and remedied ASAP. And if the Blues won’t deal Thomas, perhaps they would trade Kyrou before next season making Kuzmenko expendable. Moore and/or Foegele should also be used as tradeable assets in any deal.

An E4 has been spotted. I repeat, we have an E4 sighting.

I simply don’t believe St. Louis is going to trade Robert Thomas. He’s on a team friendly deal through 2031. He’s won a Cup in StL. There’s no internal replacement. Unless he requests a trade he’s the type of player you rebuild around.

Elias Pettersson is the type of player who occasionally becomes available and everyone who didn’t watch him at his peak says he’s not worth his salary but the Kings are in a position where cap doesn’t matter. They’re desperate for a #1 C and they’d be lucky to get a player of his caliber. 4x All Star. 3x 30 goal scorer. 100 points in 2023. Established relationship with our homegrown star forward. It all makes sense.

You give that package up for Thomas, not Petterson. Even then it’s one of the dmen, not both. And is StL demanded both I don’t know I could stomach that.

I said on the Fire Hiller thread I’d be happy to get Petterson for a first, second, Turcotte and Pinelli or Salin. I’d also be okay with losing Cihar instead of those two prospects. If it had to another first instead of a second I’d be okay with that too.

FWIW, these guys at Canucks Daily could be just as dumb as me but their Kings pitch is a first, second, and Laf. I don’t want to lose Laf, but Turc would be fine.

The Kings don't exactly have the assets Vancouver wants for their rebuild, with no real top prospects aside from goaltender Carter George, who despite him having a great season in the Ontario Hockey League, wouldn't really fit in the Canucks organization given the logjam they have between the pipes.

This could lead the Kings to get creative, perhaps they give up their 2026 first round pick and a second round pick, along with one of their younger players already on their NHL rosters such as 24-year-old winger Alex Laferriere, who is on pace to set a new career-high in goals after putting up 19 last season.

Laf and a 1st would be requirements in any trade for EP. Throwing in one of the goalie prospects should be enough to get the deal done.

I dislike that the team gets older with that trade but like it or not the Kings are in win now mode.

I believe if the Kings win a series, management would be happy. Picking up Elias does not get them past Edmonton, Vegas or Colorado. If the Kings get in as a Wild Card, they end up playing Colorado. Four games later they are on vacation. I can see them beating Vegas possibly one game. If they play Seattle or the Ducks, then you have a chance to win a series.

The choice feels like trading future picks to pick up Petey (or similar) to try and stay playoff competitive versus tearing down and for sure not being playoff competitive until 2030. Kopi retiring leaves a huge hole at 1C and the odds of signing a top FA center is remote. They seldom come on the market and probably prefer an up-and-coming team or a zero-tax team to LA. Doughty is finally looking old and we have zero blue-chip prospect skaters. So either patch it together with trades for top players and FA signings to fill out the roster -or- start tearing things down with a very, very bleak next 2 years.

That's my take on the hockey side of the house. AEG is just going to want to keep the building mostly full so they're going to mortgage the future to improve our chances of being a wild card team.

Sounds like they don’t need a goalie prospect.

I hate the idea of giving up Laf. I get it, you have to give to get and a 1C is much harder to acquire than a second line winger. But man do I hate it. You can only bleed so much young talent with a locker room presence. Durzi, Spence.

I think Laffy is a cornerstone for the next decade. He will score 20 goals once his bad luck with disallowed goals passes. He is not ever going to be the best player on any team but he’s the consummate secondary player. Do not trade him.

All of this discussion just makes me think, if the Kings were really gonna throw down and go all in, they probably should’ve done so for a guy like Quinn Hughes, provided they could guarantee an extension
