Joel Armia to LA?

The difference between Trevor Moore and Alex Turcotte is that, one of them has figured out how to play a high energy game despite his size, and the other guy hasn’t.
But Turc is now the age T.O. (And Juice before him) was when he figured it out in the NHL. I would give him one more year. Moore is almost 30 now. Time to get what they can for him while GMs still remember the 31-goal season. I hate saying that… I have known him since he was a teenager - hanging out at old Discount Hockey in Agoura and at Ice-O-Plex. But if he is part of what it takes to get Byram, then I am all for it.

If Holland landed Byram think there’d be a taker for Edmundson? San Jose is woefully under the floor. Not to get too far ahead. I just really want Byram also.

We may be headed back to the “Lowly Kings” years. The Ducks may beat out this mediocre Kings roster next season. They knew someone like Byram and they need Greentree to make the jump to the NHL.
Let’s pump the brakes here a bit. Look at the outgoing players versus the incoming players. Who did we really lose? Gavrikov, Spence, Jeannot and Lewis. Did Kevin Fiala, Kempe, Foegele, Danault, Kopitar, Moore and Byfield all retire overnight when I wasn’t looking?
Let’s be honest, we had an effective 4th line for about 15 minutes this last season, until Jeannot got hurt. Adding Perry and Armia should solve that issue. Our defense hung in admirably with Drew out, but they were absolutely not lighting the world on fire from the back end. We replaced Gavy and Spence with two large defenders who usually chip in 20-25 points a season. I’m not saying it CAN’T go poorly, but this could also turn out to be another incremental upgrade like the season before, when Foegele and Edmundson came aboard.

Yeah, I don't see a huge downgrade. Losing Gavrikov hurts, but the third pairing is solid, if overpriced, and the 4th line is improved. Plus I don't think Holland is done.

Agreed.
We did not get the marquee players but these acquisitions made the Kings better without subtracting beyond Gavrikov.
The Kings have been without a front-net presence, especially on the PP…while I sincerely wish that presence wasn’t Corey Perry, he’s here. And he actually had a productive season, particularly in the playoffs. He is going to help this team.
Armia gives them a guy who can do a lot things, nothing remotely spectacular, but he’s solid.
Ceci can be more physical than any of our righty defensemen, seems to have been popular with coaches and teammates. A bit higher cap hit & term than I wish but that’s what his price to come here was.
Dumoulin had Cups early in his career, is a solid defenseman, and has lots of playoff experience.
The Kings got a goalie who can play 25/30 games, which you need if your starter is 35. And it’s not Jake Allen or Mrazek.

These are hardly exciting moves, but they are sensible ones. The combination of these players can lighten the load for Kopitar and Doughty, gives the Kings some experienced veterans, and makes this team better.
Again, we did not give up assets (Gavy wanted to leave and Spence no longer fit), still have some cap space, and can still trade now or acquire at the deadline. And I believe the kings brought in some players who will help get over the hump and improve the mindset that has been missing.

I think this was a good day for the Kings, although it did not come with neon lights, glitter and fireworks.

My response was meant to be read in the same fatalistic, Suffering Kings Fan voice as the post from Santiclaws that I quoted. Don’t take it the wrong way. The hyperbole was intentional.

I wish I saw what some people see in Turcotte. Maybe I will one day
To me, Turcotte is a smart player, works well in tight spaces, is really competitive, and knows how to put the puck in the net when he’s in the crease.
One problem is that he cannot stay in the lineup for long stretches. He needs to play a certain style to get in the lineup, but that style leaves him prone to injuries.
I think IF we could see him play 75 games we would see why he was a very high pick. He’s got skill.

He also makes sneaky good passes and is actually one of the best passing forwards on the team. He has speed, is tenacious with and without the puck, and simply works hard. He has the ability to develop into a 60 point 2-way forward.

On the flip side, he's one concussion away from retirement and, as you mentioned, is forced to play a physical game which is not how we should be using him. Give him opportunity and a full season off the 4th line and we will see results from him.

He’s too small

He’s too small
Unfortunately, I agree. His game requires him to be physical to be successful, and he's too small to do that in the NHL, plus he doesn't have great awareness a smaller player like Marchand has. He gets hit hard way too often, and I am scared every time he does. I am seriously worried that one fine day he's going to take a hit which will affect him for the rest of his life. I would have preferred that he retired the last time he got concussed. He's playing with fire.

And although there is bit of tongue in cheek when I always say this, it’s completely true with Turcotte. He’s got the heart of a lion. He has the mentality of a power forward, and he’s be way more successful if he was a few inches taller and weighed another 30 pounds.

In the end, physics always wins.

Well, we had Lizzy before and he was as small as Marchand. Yet he played like a true grinder for his size and somehow avoided major injuries for the most part despite not being as skilled as the Nose Face Killah is.
