Well Korp and Cop should be the tandem for a while here. Cal just is not up to snuff, I hate to say it, but given the opportunity, it was an exposure more than it was anything else, kind of like JQ this year. Confidence is one thing, ability is another...I dont know that CP ever had NHL caliber talent once the NHL had enough film on him. JQ had it obviously, but as father time caught up to him, it was an exposure there too.

Korp looked okay out there, no fault on the breakaway, and only one other goal against though says he was excellent I have no reason to think he wont do extremely well here and see a path to a cup and re-sign. Same for Gabrikov, so long as the LAK can offer competitive $.

Cop (with his size and positioning) will hopefully get past the exposure test. Korp is already there, now just needs to tighten his game. Both have great size, which should help immensely. Lets just hope that we can cruise from one legend to another because this team is set for years if the goaltending can be sorted out. They have scoring, they have an ever improving D, the goaltending which was a question mark through December seems solid, they have young talent ready to step in...sans a DL style front office mistep it should be a great decade for the Kings...

I really hope we sign Korpi to a 2-3 year deal.

Phaneuf and Edler coming off of the books will help for sure, but we need more space. Forwards, Iaffallo is likely the odd man out that needs to be moved. I prefer to move him over Arvy, for sure. Ultimately its possible we move on from BOTH Iaffalo and Arvyy, depending on whether any of Turcotte, Fagemo, or other guys may be deemed ready. On D I'm ready to dump Durzi for nothing or some random pick and Walker for maybe a pick as well. I like what Roy brings far more and hope we hang on to him

Honestly, I think Kaliyev should be calling for a promotion next season. If either Arvy or IA are gone next fall, I fully expect Kaliyev to be given a promotion.

As to Durzi, why would you dump him for nothing. If anything, he is a young offensive defenseman of NHL caliber. He has work to do but dumping him for nothing might be a Milbury level mistake.

Isn't Walker a UFA? They may just let him walk... and give Spence a real shot.

It might be easier to find a taker for Iaffalo or Walker if Durzi is included in the deal. I don't see a long term role for Durzi here, with Clarke and Spence on the near horizon and Roy playing as well as he is.

After reading Blake and Todd's recent remarks about playing them both down the stretch, I would think it will be Korpisalo.

I would think so as well. There's a short audition period before the playoffs and Todd will have to pick his guy. I'm hoping Korpisalo plays well enough to obviously be that guy.

I have full appreciation for what Copley has brought to the team this year, basically saving our season, but that first goal tonight makes me feel exactly the same as this.

Yep. Stuff like that loses you playoff games. And playoff series.

Yup that is always curious to me how a goaltender ends defending with stick completely up in the air...however as a point of discipline, that is an easy fix.

The interesting thing about copley is as well as he has played he never has made the amazing save...and I mean that in a good way. We all remember Quick and his saves you never thought he could make, it was exciting, but as his career went on you might have come to the realization that he was out of position and getting back to make the amazing save, while fun to see, might not have ever happened if he was positionally sound.

Copely has the calmness of game that actually hurts him because you cannot look back and say, remember that save against ____________? In part that is because he is so positionally sound that he rarely looks like he is making a save he should not. If anything I saw more of that in Korpisalo than I would like, almost somewhere right in between JQ and Cop. They are both big guys who should be able to take up a ton of room in the net. Cop just plays such a boring style, I think that hurts him when people evaluate his play. GAA is not great, so I anticipate Korp with this D in front of him will post 93% and above save % the rest of the way out and ultimately take the #1 heading into playoffs...

I don't think it has to be one or the other in the playoffs. I know that's the most common way of doing it, but sometimes too much emphasis is put on that in my opinion. Copley may not be the most exciting goalie, but he gets results. On the other hand Korpisalo did look good in his only start and has more NHL experience. Let's see how it plays out.

I don’t have a problem with that. I was replying to Rajuabju talking about throwing Durzi away for nothing. I don’t have a issue with going with either player, but I think that we should get something for that player. I wouldn’t be opposed to a Iaffalo/Durzi trade to drop some cap and get some value. It might be nice to pair Clarke with Gavrikov with that extra $.

i hear what you're saying and of course I'd prefer to get some asset back for Durzi. My overall point was that I think in the playoffs, someone like Durzi is going to get exposed bad, and I see him as more of a negative than a positive. I may very well be in the minority on this.

Yea, that first one was a stinker. Opened the 5 hole to welcome a dribbling puck. To his credit, that hasn't happened much, but it does give me pause. Suspect we'll see the alternating plan until one becomes the clear #1 . Korpi vs Colorado should provide a solid data point.

I think they keep swapping starts for a short while but if wins are pretty even Todd will start riding the guy with a better save percentage, who I’d expect will be Korpisalo.

Still, will be interesting to see if they split the remain two games against EDM and who gets the start against SEA. Number 1 will have to be solidified by the VGK game.
