Kaliyev Free Agency Watch!!!!

Seems like the scouts and GMs who let Arty fall out of the first round knew best. And he definitely wasn't even worth the early 2nd Blake wasted on him. Shame how it all worked out. Even that great shot seemed to abandon him.
 
Kaliyev’s case is definitely vexing because he scored 14 goals in an 80 game campaign, and then followed that up with 13 in a shortened 56 game season. He has size, but does not exert himself physically, much like PLD. It’s all between the ears, and to be honest, I think Arty is mildly on the spectrum. This coming from someone who despises it when you see every young adult on social media claiming they’re autistic.. but in this case, I think there’s something to it. He’s definitely somewhat ‘askew’.

At the end of the day, I think he was a very acceptable risk with a second round pick.

At the time he was called one of the best steals of the draft. He has the talent but he is very slow to adapt and struggles to mentally process the game at NHL speed. I think he could be a decent 3rd line forward in the NHL if given time, but it's going to be hard to find an Organization willing to dedicate that time and patience.

Likely his NHL journey is over.

I've always wondered if he was on the spectrum but since I'm no expert I could never be sure without anyone confirming it. I wonder if it would help him to have some kind of personal coach to work with him on the ice but help him process the information better. It would suck if he lost his NHL career because of this rather than him being lazy or something like that.
 
Even the way he tapes his stick is incredibly bizarre, of the hundreds of sticks of NHL players I've had in my hands his tape job is beyond anything I've ever seen. At least a role of tape on the handle alone so I would say he has some kind of obsessive compulsive disorder, if anyone wants to hit me up on IG I'll show you the pic as for some reason it's not loading on here, I'm just @EarlSkakel

So, question is...is this a result of the Kings not developing him properly or were the Kings ultimately right and the kid hit his ceiling, was never going to be the player they hoped?
