Kaliyev Re-Signing per Dreger

Even if it's just a 1-year contract signing, Blake is now already getting burned for it locking Kali up only for the latter to suddenly get injured in practice. I expected Kali to be traded but apparently Blake was too yellow-bellied to strike a deal with a suitable team. This is on Blake. What a waste.

"Locked up"??? A one-year minimum contract is "locked up"??? Also, would love to see what kind of grease you've got with 31 other GMs. 🤪

I'm not 100% however, I am sure Blake tried to unload Kali in the offseason. The problem is, all teams have a player like him.

He just signed a contract and then ends up taking an upper-body injury in practice two days later that turns out he'll be out indefinitely for whatever timetable is for the season. Am I supposed to believe that's a good look for Blake? Sure, it may not be up to the level of disaster that was PLD last year, but still. Sorry, but I stand by my opinion here.

How does the injury, or that he was practicing, reflect badly on Blake?

Kaliyev requested a trade earlier the past few months, but Blake for some reason couldn't find a suitor that was willing to take Kali in exchange for either a similar player who'd potentially be better than him or a low-round pick. Seems Blake gave up and resigned himself to bringing back Kali for another year. Now I know most of you aren't exactly big defenders of Kali here but that's what frustrated me. And if it turns out that Kali continues to be a non-factor in the Kings lineup when he finally returns from injury, and that depends on how they use him this coming season, well, he might as well be waiver bait and my point stands.

I think the problem with your theory is that all of the other teams had seen Kaliyev play over the last season and a half. As much as I have been frustrated with what Blake has been doing these past few years, this is not one of them. He had few options, if any. Giving Kaliyev one last chance with a new coach and a "clean slate" seems like a reasonable approach to me.

Please, share more of your wisdom.

I'm sorry, I just don't agree with this take. Blake has done some things wrong, but not being able to trade a guy who get's injured in practice isn't one of them.
