Kaliyev Waived

That shop has sailed.

Just curious how everybody is gonna react when he doesn’t get claimed? Will that wake you up to the fact that he’s not a NHL caliber forward anymore?
You don’t think a bottom feeding team like Columbus, Chicago, or Anaheim, will pick him up just to try and pump his tires on the PP, in order to flip him for a 3rd rounder at the deadline? I think all of those teams have plenty of cap space for a short term reclamation project, as do a number of others like Buffalo and San Jose.

That doesn't happen in any universe connected to real life.

I found a league where Kaliyev might be great (minimal skating required):

I wouldn't be surprised if he gets picked up by the Penguins. If not one claims him, though, that would work out well for us and he can get more games in at the AHL level and start to rebuild some value.

Personally, I would like to see him stay with the Kings.

Maybe he ends up resurrecting his career somewhere else. TBH, i hope he does, he's a good kid. But it won't be here, and the Kings are currently better off for it. Sometimes you need to be in the right place at the right time. Right here, right now... is not his time.

Haters will say the Kings ruined him, but the fact is, he's still pretty 1-dimensional. Needs the right people to play to his strengths. And wasn't bringing enough to the table when he wasn't scoring. And this is after getting chances with 2 different coaches. Having a great shot isn't enough, and it's harder to score in the NHL, so if you can't win puck battles, and you don't have speed or defensive chops... what are you really contributing? To say nothing of his trade request...

Clague. Anderson-Dolan. Frk... it happens.

I’d rather trade him for whatever we can get and move on.

If we can’t, then I’m fine with getting the roster slot back.

In the end, it’s time to move on. He didn’t pan out, and one could argue that it could be our development program that’s at fault, but the dude just doesn’t play in our end and is a liability.

This x 1000

He would probably fit well on a run and gun roster out east.
I disagree, he cannot run, but he can gun. Run and gun players do not get the puck in the defensive zone and end up just dumping the puck into the neutral zone at the first sign of pressure. That is dump and no gun, which has been his game for the last 1.5 years,

I wouldn’t say Anaheim is a bottom feeder anymore.

The only way this happens is if that team is fighting for the best chance at 1st overall at the draft. San Jose has been playing well lately and getting Kaliyev will hurt them more than help. He can shoot the puck given the chance, but that is it.

I wouldn’t be shocked either way.
Kaliyev hasn’t done much consistently and was clearly pushed aside last year by TM.
I think Hiller actually wanted to give Artie a chance in camp which was wise, but the quick injury derailed that.
Kaliyev hasn’t had a camp or any real practice and only a few games in Ontario. One has to wonder if he is even NHL-ready.
But, he does have a good shot, the one that gave him a few opportunities with the Kings.
His problem has always been consistency. And as Dooley described Artie is a high-risk, high-reward player who doesn’t fit on the Kings roster.
I hope for his sake he gets claimed. He is at the end of the road in LA. I don’t know that he will.
For me, it has no effect at all on the team I root for. And this is most certainly not a reason to look for someone to bash. He had some chances. It didn’t work out. There is no asset with Kaliyev at this point. That ship indeed has sailed.

I don’t know if Kaliyev will be claimed. I hope he’s not. I hope he passes through waivers, goes down to Ontario, and starts playing good consistent hockey for the Reign. And when the time comes he can either come up & help the Kings or be part of a trade to get us something valuable.

I had a lot of hopes for Kaliyev in the beginning. But even though he’s had some bad breaks, he’s not really made the most of his opportunities. I still have a little bit of hope for him. Whatever happens, if he stays or goes, majors or minors, I hope he gets the chance to just play & improve his game.

Also ironic that on the day the US wins gold at the WJC’s, he as a former gold medal winner for USA gets put on waivers.

I have zero emotion about this. Other than super fleeting glimpses of that shot, I never saw anything to give me confidence the rest of his game was coming along.
