Kempe

This is what that clown David Staples is saying, with all his weird “jungle rules” blather. He’s so close to getting it…and also miles and miles away.

My favorite part of the article though is that McDavid “makes everyone richer” as he is “one of the few widely recognized stars in the U.S.”

Last season the Dangle pod boys were talking about the NHL won’t market McDavid as their face because he’s too pouty and salty. To the extent the casual U.S. fan tunes into watch random hockey, it’s not the Oilers he/she is looking for.
It’s almost impossible to use McDavid as a central marketing figure because he’s completely devoid of a personality.

Contrast that with the Dodgers/MLB use of Shohei Ohtani as a marketing centerpiece in the US even though he rarely speaks English. He lets his game do the talking and he’s got a very affable/quirky personality when he isn’t being a stone cold killer on the field.

The casual sports fan wouldn’t recognize Connor McDavid if he were pumping their gas and that’s his fault.

Sounds like it's time for Code Red

McDavid was on the post-game for the national broadcast last night and man, you nailed it. Devoid of personality.

Exactly. I love that influential Canadian podcast dudes understand this but the Oiler media bubble is living in a straight alternate reality. Gretzky didn’t grow the game from Edmonton. I suppose they’d credit the Sun Belt expansion due to his four Cups.

McDavid has many nicknames but I prefer to call him either McOverrated, McPrincess, McCrybaby, McWhiner, or whatever derogatory insults I can attach to his "Mc" affix. Usually, I call him McOverrated. Oh, and I also at times call him "Crosby West" because like Crosby, he's as super-talented and whiny as he is. Unlike Crosby, however, McPrincess has no rings, yet. Anyways, screw him and his even more petulant fans from Deadmonton.

So according to the refs, it was Johansson’s stick that hit him, not McDavid’s elbow. And of course he won’t be fined. That’s just perfect.

This league is a joke when it comes to covering up for certain star players. Everyone can see that he elbowed Johansson, they just make a mockery of themselves…

Best player since Gretzky who may do the impossible and break the Great One’s points record. You can call him anything you want but not overrated.

Also Crosby has more class in his farts than McDavid has in his whole being. It’s why we hate McDavid so much. He is otherworldly but it’s not enough for him. He has to be cheap as it gets on top of it all.

Yeah, but McDavid is still overrated to me because as genuinely talented as he is, the fans and especially the media like to eat up the hype like how he's the next savior of hockey and the Edmonton franchise. Granted, that comes with a team that has been through the down years after the Gretzky/Messier era but still, it gets way over-the-top and I, as well as other fans, find it vexatious.

Crosby had similar expectations early in his career too when he was drafted by Pittsburgh and he too was whiny in his younger years. At least over time as he grew older, he matured and became more classy as even non-fans of him grew to respect him and his resume. McDavid right now is like younger-era Crosby except I doubt McDavid would mature enough to show more class as he has less of a personality than Crosby.

One finds it much easier to overlook personality flaws when there are banners in the rafters. At his point in Crosby's 'whiny' career he had delivered a mere 3 cups in 11 seasons. McDavid...currently in his 10th...will be the greatest player to have never won the cup IMO. I believe it's an actual award and it's called the Pavel Bure trophy. (or is it Mats Sundin? Marcel Dionne?...I can't remember.)

If one considers this in one's assessment of McDavid then yes....he is indeed...overrated.

Did u all see the second period intermission where Biz called McDavid out on it. McDavid looked pissed that Biz called him out
Good on Biz for having the balls to do that! If just Bettman and the Department of Players Safety could grow a pair too…
