Confirmed with Link Kings name Holland their 10th GM in History

So those posters who claimed McD loves LA and is frequently vacationing there were trolling or were simply misinformed?

If this is true and he doesn't win the Cup in Edmonton because their management can't put together a complete enough team that would give him a better chance, I can totally see him leave just the way Gretzky did. Though maybe he perseveres until the very end of his career because he doesn't want to be seen as a "quitter"...
I can absolutely see McDavid leaving if two of his main rivals win the Cup before him. Eichel has now won the Cup, so, if say, Matthews were also to do so then I think McDavid's probability of leaving Edmonton increase significantly.

I don't have anything concrete to pin it on, but I really think LA may be an option he would consider. What the Kings need to do, though, is show they are contenders and that the upper management knows how to build, and maintain, a team.

One thing that I think about is McDavid and his comfort level with the big market and media.
Something about him doesn’t fit in my opinion. He is the biggest name in a major sport (granted it’s still the NHL) but he doesn’t seem to seek the media spotlight and attention. I mean, he could have demanded a trade to a big market a few times if he wanted to.
McDavid does not seem to be a diva. He seems very happy in EDM. And I do understand that he must get lots of attention in his market but doesn’t seem to need it like lots of others stars.

One thing that I’ve noticed is that even the NHL doesn’t seem to market him personally. They market the name, the idea of him. But you rarely see him spotlighted.
I’m not trying to be a jerk but I’ve noticed he has a different personality. Not saying it’s a disorder but he’s a different type. Perhaps the intent is to protect that.

I just wonder if he wants anything to do with moving to a new team and new media. I think it’s a question for me as to whether he just wants to stay where he’s comfortable. He’s going to be the highest paid player regardless of where he’s at.

That’s because this is the visual representation of his actual personality:

Go to his Instagram account and look at his wedding photos last summer. He’s upset his wife isn’t the Cup.

So funny that in the 90s Wayne Gretzky had such penetration of the US market that he had his own breakfast cereal and Saturday morning cartoon but this MF can’t even book a Dunkin Donuts commercial.

Imagine if the most exciting and game breaking player of his generation had 1/10th the personality of Shohei Ohtani…

Hmmm... I'm not so concerned with maintaining. I want the cup, and if we stink for a couple years thereafter so be it.

Lots of chatter out there today from non Kings insiders that Holland is the guy. Imagine we'll hear soon if true.
Not who I'd pick, but it sort of reminds me when DL's status was starting to come into question and he went with the guy he knew best and hired Sutter. If Luc thinks this is his last GM hire, then it's not all that surprising if he goes with the GM that he won a Cup with as a player.

That doesn't mean it's a good choice.

He’s won 4 Cups as GM and is an outsider. Time will tell. But I wouldn’t mind Holland getting the job.

He won Cups with Detroit 20+ years ago when there was no cap and Detroit just outspent everyone. He's done nothing good as a GM since the cap. He was a clusterfuck in Edmonton, unable to get even decent goaltending during his tenure and the Oilers are still digging out from cap issues because of a lot of dumb contracts he signed, with Nurse's idiotic contract being Exhibit "A." Edmonton fans are very excited for the Kings to hire this guy, which is all you need to know.

I was never a huge Blake fan, but I would MUCH rather have Blake back.

That’s been the rub, hasn’t it.
All the Fire Blake means you gotta hire somebody.

Sounds like the NHL might not be a meritocracy after all…

I could be wrong but I seem to recall DL wanting Sutter to be the coach instead of Terry Murray but he had just moved into the full time GM role in Calgary so he wasn’t interested.

I used to love that cartoon growing up - Gretzky, Jordan and Bo Jackson. The NHL was, at one point, a top 3 sport in the US as well and has greatly slipped since. It really needs a star to showcase with a personality to match.

And the firing puts the person in charge of the hiring under maximum pressure with a very small window in which to get the hiring completed. Bad outcomes were the
True. Any change that comes at the end of season presents a time crunch.
Clearly there is internal pressure on the front office and that’s when trust plays a huge part in this.
Sure sounds like Holland is the guy from what I’m seeing.
I don’t know any of the candidates who we have seen on the lists beyond small talk from a distance. Hoping whoever is chosen has a solid plan. Outside of that I’m just a fan in the dark on this topic. Just don’t know enough about any of them.
