Kings trading Quick and a first plus to Columbus?0

Just hope this makes more sense tomorrow than it does tonight. If Blake blindsided Quick with this half the fanbase will ... oh wait, they already say he's disloyal and hate him.

And not even on deadline day. Like you had to rush and make THIS deal?

So Korpisalo is the new #1 moving forward? I sure hope Blake listened to the analytics guys on this trade because the initial reaction isn’t moving the needle for me.

Makes me wonder if Blake's job was in jeopardy - no reason it should have been. I just don't get it. We needed a better goalie - got that, but the price - culture + a first. I'm lost.

Quick is done as an NHL goalie, and I think the latest performance from him solidified the fact in Blake's mind. So I am guessing the decision was made quickly. It's not the ideal situation, and maybe it could have been handled better, but I really do not see what choice Blake had. The team cannot have one goalie on the roster in the middle of a playoff race, which is essentially what they had since Quick could not be trusted to even be a backup.

Said this in the other thread, but will say here - then I'll try to stop posting, sorry everyone.

I'm so lost lol. Goes against everything I thought we were told

1) wants a player with term, not rentals
2) culture is everything
3) don't want to give up firsts

like broke all those rules for two average players we're likely not retaining and the glut of prospects continues.

20 stupid games to ride this out. Yeah, Korpisalo and Gavrikov as rentals when this team is no where near Cup-worthy is really worth completely disrespecting the best goalie in franchise history. And sure, p*ss away a first rounder in the deepest draft in years for good measure.

Also, it’s Gavrikov and Korpisalo!!! What world beaters!

What an embarrassing, infuriating trade this is.

No I 100% agree and was roasted by a few for saying that Rangers game was clearly his last chance to prove he could do it and he failed. So if you need to trade him I just don't get this return. Maybe I undervalue Korpisalo, but there's a few days left still and we hurt Quick AND give up the first for this so-so rental. If he trades Quick for Demko for example - that sucks to do that to Quick, but I get the decision. This I don't.

Even if either of the players in return had term left on their deals - then you can sort of get it - you could disagree, but at least it would make sense. Unless you believe these players make you cup contenders, you just did this to your franchise goalie for what exactly?

There has to be another move coming that just isn't public now. That's the only way this makes sense.

Would like to believe it, but we gave away our first, what's left that we can do?

I know you're not suppose to marry the player and all that, but holy drugs this is Quick we're talking about. I guess part of me felt that if Copley bombs in the playoffs, Quick would magically come in to save the day??

Don't know much about the BJ goalie. He's a goalie on a bad team. There's not much to say to that. Is he replacing Copley as the #1 ? Or are we just trading for a backup??

:(

I had a hunch at the fan fest that it would be the last time I'd ever meet Quick as a King too...

Why replace Copely when he's winning games? Now there's a backup who has a better chance of winning some, too.

Sadly this is Petersen’s fault. He was supposed to be the #1 goalie but he crapped the bed the so badly that he got himself sent down and Quick traded. Kind of amazing actually.

Basically, yeah. Pedersen and his contract.

End of an era. One of the G had to go to get help. My guess is JQ retires at the end of the year.

Yikes! Trading the legendary (but clearly ready for retirement) Quick is one thing. But trading a first for two rentals WITHOUT a contract extension?! This kind of reminds me of the early 1980s Rick Martin for a 1st type of trade. Of course, it's always possible there's more to come. Perhaps Blake trades some of the prospects for a 1st (like DL trading Cammellari for a 1st in 2008). Somehow, I think (I HOPE!) there's more to come, even if it's at the draft.

True. But Martin getting injured did not help. And you never know who that pick is going to be.

That being said Quick deserved to play this contract out.
