***LA Kings @ Calgary Flames GDT 03/28/23 6:00pm on BSW***

How could the team have been so unprepared for the Flames’ aggressive play? Calgary was obviously motivated by playoff desperation and they took the game to the Kings from the opening puck drop. The coaching staff and the guys wearing letters are supposed to anticipate that sort of thing, aren’t they?

Wife fell asleep watching this one, granted they start at 10:30 here :(

Was a weird one. Easily could have been 5-1 Flames save a few inches, or the other way around for the Kings. I don't think any of our chances were truly spectacular. Couldn't connect a pass. Couldn't get to the center of the ice at all save Fiala on a few shots because that's what he does. As soon as they got up they went into mega box out mode. Kings need to somehow work on when the other team shuts them down. They have a big, big problem in those games. Flames was an example and so was a few weeks ago - whatever team it was that ran the 1-3-1 against us and we couldn't do a thing. I think Edmonton will end up 1st regardless. They firing on all cylinders - Vegas looks weak with Quick, Kings deciding their own destiny atm, we'll see, last 2 games were worrisome.

Kings didn’t deserve this one. Calgary was the aggressor and came to play. When they did mess up like a mediocre team does, Markstrom was elite.

Just one of those games. Just don’t let it snowball.

That was probably one of the worst games I have seen from Danault, Arvidsson and Fiala as Kings. Tough to win when they play like that.

I worry about the Kings in a 7 game series because when the other team shows up to play that usually involves big hits. Arvidsson was literally on his ass all night. I don't know if I've seen a player get manhandled that much in a game. We had no response. I think this effect is true on all 4 lines. Lots of speed, D zone responsibility, etc., but a lack of size and toughness (mental toughness as well with the bonehead & retaliatory penalties) will be a problem.

McLellan:

"On moving Fiala and Moore around tonight
I thought that Phil’s line was giving up a lot and wasn’t getting quite enough at the other end, so we tried to flip them around. I’m not sure if that helped or not."

Yeah, Maarkstrom was good but Kings didn’t get goalied. He saw everything. Their puck handling was horrendous so I don’t know whether they were too flat to adjust or so frustrated they were flat.

I noticed that too, and not just tonight. He seems to be the next in line when it comes to punishment received on the ice, obviously Lizotte holds the title, but Arvi isn't that far behind.

so, did EVERYONE except me get a point in the poll question? That's a long list.

Lol. Where you located? Glad I ain't the only one.

If I make the move to Lake Norman North Carolina, I'm not sure I will be able to pull off these 10:30pm games. I have a hard enough time now when I'm on the east coast to stay up and watch the Kings, I don't know if I could for most of the season. I give you both lots of credit for doing so.

I still think the Oilers will end up winning the division and LA will probably play Vegas unless the Kraken come back in the mix.

Lol thanks. The good thing, with ESPN+ on Hulu, is you can watch the next day without commercials, so the whole affair is over in about 70 minutes. Just have to avoid the internet. I do this when I'm also passin' out :D It was nice to see 'em play the Hurricanes - hadn't been to a game in.. 6 years (lived in Oregon before). Carolina's are definitely interesting.. the weather.. hot rain, rolling thunder, pollen storms, giant bugs. I just love that it never is really overcast, if it's grey it rains. 6 months of nice manageable sunny weather, summer is kinda rough, winter is kinda cold, but overall it's stupid cheap compared to west coast (minus health care) and definitely been a bit of an adventure.. we moved here never even have visited. Just kinda got bored and had a "connection" so it worked out I guess :D

Ottawa... became a fan when Gretzky got traded and luckily, there was no Sens yet.

Oh cool. Amazing how many fans he brought in. You a Sens fan too?

I concur. I think Oilers are a force atm.

Not in the least lol. Although if LA was out, I'd be fine with them winning. Would certainly take them over all the other Canadian teams. ATM, I'm constantly hearing about Stutzle vs. Byfield, making their fans even more annoying than usual. I play hockey and it is literally brought up in the convo most games.
