"No aggression, no saves, no poise in 3rd cost LAK a nice W." -- Dennis Bernstein on Twitter. Yep, that says it all.

But we're still in second!!! /s

I'm still miffed about Faust running his mouth after the 2nd period, acting like we're a first place team with a minus-10 goal differential for the season. We'll probably be in 4th by Brown statue night. Edmonton has 2 games against bottom feeder teams when they come off of their break. Soon I'll be rooting against Calgary and Nashville so that we can hold onto Wild Card #2 .

Kopitar was 6 for 23 on faceoffs yet McLellan kept putting him out there in OT. Frickin' pathetic...

well that 3rd and onwards sucked hard.

team forgot how to play in the 3rd. bad penalties. fun game to be at. weird stadium rituals lol. so many goofy things. crowd was 100% silent until 3rd then 1/2 the crowd left and the real fans got real loud. only one guy saying "F u LA" every 3 minutes a few seats away, it was actually pretty funny how much he did it and never made eye contact once - otherwise a nice night. first Kings game Ive been able to see in 6+ years. we brought my dad who'd never been to a hockey game and he's sorta from Carolina and knows nothing about hockey - they left after the 2nd saying well this is over it's a blowout we're gonna get early start back home (4 hours) and I told him 3 goal lead is most dangerous.. they should stay. they missed all the excitement, lol.

i'll take the point!

Canes aren't OT killers. They barely have a +2 differential in OT wins. This OT was won in the faceoff dot. Canes won it and got the possession. Kings almost survived it and were going to the shootout. Kings collapse in the 3rd + Canes overconfidence in the 3rd= Canes win. (Plus a better coach that switched lines after he saw the poor 2nd by his team.)

Demko is not the answer either. The guy hasn't been stellar. I don't see a goalie out there that can overcompensate for the inconsistent D.

Did we even have a shot in the 3rd? IDK. It was tough to watch.

We have a Doughty that is a shell of his old self, Walker, Durzi, and Eller out on defense. The defense is SERIOUSLY lacking and the team in front of it isn’t fast enough to remedy such a terrible defense.

Until Blake addresses the defense, there’s nothing any goalie in the league could do to help this team.

Yeah. Durzi straight up was passing directly to the other team, multiple times in a row. Copley was making some big saves.

The good thing about games like this is it really shows you where we are actually at as a team. All that overachieving from last year was a mirage.

The Canes looked like a Cup contender who just asserted their will against us when they decided they needed to. When they had their pushes going it was complete suffocation.

We have some fancy offensive pieces (finally), but we need some stability and grit on defense and some solution to the suddenly urgent goaltending problem before this team takes the next step.

Kings survived the 3rd and almost OT. I guess that Canes announcing team and their smugness got to me. They literally called out when they'll score in the 3rd.

Stutzle got his 21st and 22nd goals tonight, which would tie him for team lead in goals. What’s Byfield up to? Oh, right..

Just finished watching. Some of you guys are funny. Don’t want to blow a lead like that, but you’re playing the current best team there is out there. Getting four was remarkable. It wasn’t so much giving up in the third, it was the best team playing the best. Would’ve liked to have held on, but we’re not the best team right now, they are. Copley made some last minute saves and a couple of big ones in OT. Powerplay killed us but the refs clearly missed a too many men that probably would have won it for us. A measuring stick game against an elite team and we lost in OT. It’s one to grow on folks.

So the thing about the game was that I went. I live in SC and drove to NC for it. I bought my dad and his wife and his son tickets as a christmas present. They've never seen or cared about hockey. They drove 4 hours to watch the 1st and 2nd. On the drive up there I was saying they were gonna leave after the 2nd. When they got there my dad's like "I had no idea we had there hockey team here - there's no market for it so it's surprising" and I'm thinking people say the same **** in LA, "there's no market in something that a ton of people like because I don't know anything about it". They were I think trying to get into it a little bit at first, and of course were acting like mega Hurricanes fans just to be difficult, but the kicker is they left at the start of the 2nd intermission. I was like "dudes, a 3 goal lead is the worst lead in hockey" and they're like nah we gotta get home and I'm like you guys are gonna miss the best part and they said nah this is a blowout, still not liking hockey and they looked bored the whole time. Missed the entire hometown excitement of the comeback, seeing me get pissed off, all that good stuff. So it's like - damn. That building got insane. They missed it all. I had fun. Kings blew a mega lead. They missed all the fun comeback/overtime stuff of hockey, the weird ass Canes stadium rituals (I swear), overtime, etc. Why would you drive 4 hours to leave early? So many questions, so now I'm in Raleigh, which apparently is the capital. And it's so foggy I can't see an inch in front of me.

You don't grow from having a 4-1 lead and losing it in one period. It's actually more demoralizing than getting blown out. It tells you that you are not good enough to hold a lead against a good team. The Kings are basically like the Sharks, had a big lead against the Canes and lost it in OT. The Canes have another gear and the Kings don't. When they needed it they brought it and when the Kings needed it they folded. One or two goal lead and it's one thing but to be dominated like that with a three goal lead, is devastating.

Other than the Sharks comparison this is spot on.

Maybe the most disappointing loss of the season...and there have been many. That being said, I can't even bother getting mad at this team...not worth the energy.

Congratulations to the following posters who correctly guessed the allstars would combine for 3 points and/or that Kopitar would score the final Kings goal before the break:

Considering that at the start of the game I wasn't expecting any points, its somewhat amusing now how frustrating only coming out of that with 1 point is. Carolina is a great team, Kings found a way to clearly rattle them which not many teams can say. I mean that Doughty to Kempe sequence is absolutely a goal the Kings are on the receiving end of, not a first place team in the league. All that said going into the allstar break with a chance for 3 players to keep getting healthy and back into the lineup gives Rob a lot to think about as we come to the deadline. No idea what to do about the goaltending, maybe this team is just going to have to be one to do it knowing that they don't have a prime Quick back there. Maybe Rob rides Copley, maybe Cal gets one more chance, in either event I hope that the team just plays as well as they can in front of either of them.

Very well said. For some reason the Kings have difficulties playing with leads in the 3rd period. We saw it in Nashville, Florida, and again last night.

Like TM said before the game, 4-2 looks a lot better than 3-2-1. Sour taste going into the break.

Go Kings!!

That they even got to 5 faceoffs in that utter pantsing of an OT is crazy.

Todd’s OT “strategies” plus his refusal to call timeouts when the team is clearly on their heels rank right up at the top for me with my coaching issues.

Yes, 0/5 on faceoffs in OT is pathetic. Especially when puck possession in OT is everything.

TM should have called timeout after Carolina scored the 3rd goal. Would have settled things down some like it did after it went 4-4.
