Mostly agree but do think Doughty can do it. That last game - BRUTAL, but that was an outlier to me. He’s not a big, booming shot but generally he moves the puck well and can read the play as well as anyone.
In recent years, Doughty and Kopitar playing catch on the PP had killed the team’s production with a man advantage. The team had become so predictable that other teams knew exactly what to expect and would force DD to take ineffective shots from the blue line.
2 important changes have resulted in a successful PP this year. It was painful for a while, but the team finally learned how to use the bumper. That in turned gave more space to whomever was stationed at the goal mouth. We are seeing a lot more tip-ins on the PP. The other huge change on PP #1 was putting Kempe and Fiala in charge of zone entries. Successful zone entries on the PP had been a problem for years with 8 & 11 running the offense.
Credit to McLellan for altering his PP strategy to make best use of 9 & 22. But why did it take so long for the Kings to catch up to the rest of the League? It’s working now. Don’t change nothin’!!!
