Can a player wing it in off his glove if it hits the defending team skater or goalie first? I seem to recall this very same ruling going against the Kings last year in a game as well. Maybe it was a high stick against Detroit that then bounced off a King player and it was called a goal

Yup, I think that will actually be the official explanation which is even more frustrating. Insufficient evidence it went off a glove. But there was clear evidence of a distinct motion and contact so...even further, they went right to the monitors, so somebody saw it live as well on the ice, it's not like it was a challenge.

Anyway. Decent character point in the end.

This is exactly correct. Even JG isn't thinking about it. Just bat it in....what does he have to lose? If it gets waived off so what? They are no worse off than before. Otherwise, something odd might happen and it did.

Can’t help but think of the Tim Thomas unicorn whose career didn’t really start until he was 32. What a crazy story for that guy and wonder if we’ll ever see something like it again. C’mon Copley. Give this team a miracle.

Within the context of a 2nd game of a back to back and missing Doughty to boot getting the 1 point was nothing to hang their head about. Coming back three times from down goals to tie, also nothing to complain about other than being in those positions in the first place. Losing on a fluke play in OT makes it also easy to pass off this game. All that said though there's probably a reason this game was so frustrating for everyone that watched it.

Why wasn't it exciting to see the boys not quit and come back from down goals to take that game to overtime? The answer is it was, but there's still an idea that this team is built on strong goaltending and defense as an identity. Folks I got news for you but that ship has sailed, it's not built on that at all. It's most definitely much closer built on the idea that production is 3-4 lines deep. The powerplay continuously uses players through the top 9 if not 12 depending on where some players are lining up. The powerplay also has not been the problem. The penalty kill, and the rate that this team takes penalties though....That's absolutely killing their production advantages. It would be one thing if they were run around the zone defensive penalties but the sheer amount of offensive zone penalties are just atrocious. They can talk about trust all they want but if they want to focus on bang for their buck, not taking stupid stick fouls in the O-zone (Fiala looking at you) would be a big help.

Personally I think you are reading too much into Copley's play after 2 games. Truth is, so far, Todd has given him the games we should dominate while assigning the harder match ups to Quick. Also, let's not forget, that Kelly Hrudey took the Kings to the SC Finals with an .887 save percentage in both the regular season and playoffs, so it's all relative.

You want a team that plays horrible defense? Then you better as hell score a lot of goals. Blaming the goalie, however, when the team gives up numerous defensive zone turnovers and regularly fails to cover their man is just silly.

Hope Gabe can restart the fire again soon too. But I am really liking the overall scoring balance this year.

Vilardi has all but disappeared. As we all know, that's not unusual for a young player. But he just is not engaged the way he was in the first month of the season.

Should he sit out a few games to get it together? I believe if Byfield was ready, then Gabe would be the one to sit.

I disagree. Copley can come in and bring stability. Quick is hot + cold, and Cal is just bad. Copley is solid, positionally and mentally. If you listen to what the players have said about him, it all touches on how he brings stability and calmness to the team, they really aren't beating around the bush because that is EXACTLY what the team has been lacking from their goaltending.

That can mean a lot to a team, and there's an incredibly small sample size that supports that.

Watching the play in real time, my first thought was "F'ing Fiala!". It was pretty clear he was the one who inadvertently put it in the goal. Every replay reinforced that. Didn't matter how the puck got to his stick as long as it was legally in play.

But I agree that it the goal would have been disallowed had Fiala not played the puck. Rough ending for Durzi, Quick and Fiala. Hope they take it out on Buffalo.

I really thought a 9-11-13 line was gonna work. I can't explain Gabe's lack of involvement lately. At least Kopi and Juice were still carrying their loads in other ways when going through their dry spells. Gabe just seems to have fallen off the end of the earth. 19-9-13 should work once Iafallo gets stronger on the boards and can dig out pucks or initiate the cycle like he used to for Kopi and Brown.

What I notice about Vilardi is that he doesn't get physical. He doesn't fight to get to the puck along the boards or even when in front of the net. He needs to play more physically. All the good goal scorers fight for the puck, they don't wait for the puck to come to them. If he is to become a complete player he must improve the physical part of his game.
