With the mid-season quickly approaching and the erratic play of this team, serious discussion should be had about the future of this current group. By the All-Star break, and if the Kings are out of a play-off berth, should the rebuild begin by trading some older assets and get some tangible players to start the rebuild? Brown wasn't traded when he could have fetched a player or some draft picks. Great, he retired as a King, however, we got nothing in return for that. Starting with the PLD trade and having to dump him off to the Caps for Kuemper, was an utter failure. Keumper is not an effective goalie and now he's on the IR.....along with Doughty and others. The crease is a mess. We only have Red Light Rittich. It's a bad move to bring up Portillo because he is going to get lit up and that could spell disaster to his confidence. The defense also is a mess and has no identity. Being caught out of position, can't clear the zone, sloppy passes, not enough talent to thwart opposing forwards, and with the exception of one, cannot man the point on the powerplay. Lastly, is the woeful forward lines. There's only so much that Kopitar and Kempe can do. Where the hell is the "Kopitar heir apparent" Byfield? Back to being a ghost. Danualt looks like he's way past his prime for the NHL. Maybe a trip to Ontario would be good for him. Of course, he'd have to pass waivers and if a team claimed him, it would not be a loss. Moore has no one to play with. And there's Fiala. I think if you can actually FIND a team who'd want him, his trade value is so low that we'd fetch next to nothing in return. This team stinks. As we slowly sink into the depths of the Pathetic Division as the season progresses, one has to wonder when do we pull the plug. The first thing to do? Fire the entire front office and the swamp behind them. Fire the coaching staff. They failed miserably. An last, waive the white flag. The only three players not for trade or sale is Byfield, Foegle, and Kempe. Not that I'm big on Byfield, but the Kings are heavily invested in this guy and after year 4 he has one 20 goal season. It seems he's lost his way again among the forward ranks and needs to find a way to be effective. Foegle has talent, but needs someone to play along side. Kempe can still score goals, so while the rebuild will take years to complete, it's gonna happen sooner than later, let the bloodletting begin. End of rant.
