***LA Kings @ St. Louis Blues GDT 10/21/25 5:00pm on FanDuel***

Congratulations to Rog or Reg? for being the only one to deny Nyssa42 the shutout by guessing within +/-1:00 of 1:47 of the first (1 point):

Great to get the 2 points, St Louis is a tough place to play. Thought the St Louis fans did a nice job welcoming back their former PbP guy although some of them did not appreciate him using is closer on them. Perry was Perry, Kuemper made a couple huge stops, I don't think anyone likes the face off rate, Kuzy made a great play to draw the penalty, and for those counting Kempe didn't want to come off the ice in OT. Great to get the 2 points, Dallas is definitely a different test.

Congratulations to Nyssa for pitching the shutout Nobody guessed within +/-1:00 of 1:47 of the second for the kings, or 2:18 of the third

Hey Jammer!

I had 2:22 of the 2nd for the Kings! (#36) No shutout for Susan! Ha!

Thanx!

Crap you did. Will update
I want my two points! (one actually, but two sounds better...and I get to post this!)

Now, can you stop putting Kempe at the point on the power play. The guy is being wasted there. Look at that shot.
That’s the dilemma with a five-forward PP unit. They have to have someone with speed who can play defense at the top, and that’s Kempe.
The question is whether the PP is better with Kempe on the side and DD up top. I think it remains to be seen but for now I’m looking at how the 5 forwards look.

I kept laughing as this game went along knowing jammer's poll-totalling job was getting easier and easier. I promise a fun, easy-to-get-points question for tomorrow's game!

And then we have a back-to-back over the weekend that WILL be a 2-game question because jammer & I are both busy on Saturday night.

I hope everyone is as busy with work as me right now....can't complain about too much business as long as it's bringing in the cash!

Not fair! I got a hard one! And for only one measly point!

Rigged!:poop:

Totally agree and I get the dilemma but part of the problem is the PP strategy. There are ways to activate Kempe from the point and get him prime opportunities but it depends on what strategy the Kings choose to employ.

Doughty has a great hard shot but often misses the net wide. He's not really suited for an overload strategy, based on his passing, which I believe the Kings are attempting to employ with PP1. He's a solid choice for the 1-3-1 however.

As much as we should all be grateful for having Doughty the one area that has been a career long negative is his PP time. With his failure to hit the net, his poor passing and his poor zone entries (which have never really improved) ... The one part of his game that I don’t like. But again, fortunate that he’s been here.

I think it’s by design, as I mentioned in a previous thread that the PowerPlay needs to create confusion by having the umbrella forwards cycle around the perimeter during play, so the defense loses track of who they need to focus on. You’ve seen the penalty killers zero in on him for the last season and a half when he’s stationary at the dot. We know he can score from there, but the trick is to confuse the defense into leaving him open for that one timer.
A couple years ago Kempe was deadly from the wing on the PP. Teams took that away. But it’s exactly right that the Kings need movement on the PP to create high quality chances, like last night.

It’s really a testament to Kempe that he has been able to adjust and adapt and still score 35.

Yes, the Kings need movement on the PP. That can be done without putting Kempe at the point to start the PP, where he often gets stuck whenn the PP turns to garbage.

So then you want him to play down below the goal line on the right side to start? Because if he’s not at the point, that’s the only other spot for him to start, in order to create the deceptive movement necessary. Unless you want him to be more than two spots away from his prime shooting location, which is the right dot.

You think I want Kempe to play goal? There are 5 forwards, he is currently 2 spots away from his prime shooting location. How is it possible for him to be more than 2 spots away without being in goal? :)

He is at the point because the Kings want to play 5 forwards, because they have crap for LHD. That is more the point I am making. Putting Kempe at the left point might be one the better options with 5 forwards, especially with Fiala out there at the same time. Kempe is put there because he is one of the best forwards at dropping back and playing D. He is also the best goal scorer on the team. Aren't those two statements kind of at odds with each other? Anyway, that is not the prime argument. If Holland would have picked up a more mobile and offensively minded LHD (like many of us have been asking for) Kempe would not be at the point to start the PP. I hate that we do not have a legit LHD for the point on the PP, and I feel sorry for Kempe when he is spending to much time at the point waiting for things to develop.

Kempe has not shown that he is a scoring threat from the point. It is not his natural position. So, it seems to be a waste of his abilities. Why make it so the Kings need to get control and start moving the puck, then bodies around before Kempe starts to move to a scoring position? Kempe has 1 PPG so far this season, it was scored last night in OT. When has he had other good/great looks on the PP so far this year?

The Kings PP% is pretty good so far this year. They are clustered with 5 other teams that are in the 6th through the 10th positions. That being said, I think that is it has not looked great more times than it has looked good. Kempe has 1 PPG so far this year which was scored in OT last night. Outside of that I do not remember him having that many good looks so far this season.

Finally, the team that currently has the best PP% in the league has a defensemen that has more PP points than any Kings player.

Hah, yes I misspoke. What I meant to say was more than ONE spot away from his natural shooting dot. Look, I agree with everything you’re saying about what should’ve been done in the off-season. The fact of the matter is, this is what we have to work with.
