***LA Kings vs. San Jose Sharks GDT 10/24/24 7:30pm on FanDuel***

I'll take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day. What matters in the end is the two points. We have a long way to go to be a contender but keep collecting points, get a spot in the dance, and you never know what could happen. I've decided I'm going to be optimistic about the Kings, because what does being pessimistic get you other than misery.

Kempe gets a pass (or more accurately, takes less criticism) because his penalties fall into the "overly gritty" category.
Fiala, OTOH, takes more criticism because his penalties are of the "Oh s**t, I made a bonehead play and lost the puck and the only way to get it back is to slash or hook" variety.
This is exactly it. I’d add Kempe upped his PIM just a touch with a fight or two in that span also, which are totally incomparable minutes.
That's what "few" means. But my point is still valid.
I know that’s what “few” means. It’s why I said you were technically right. Colin Fraser also retired with a few more Cup rings than Patrice Bergeron, technically.

But, I will add that in spirit of what you’re saying I do think Fiala gets a little too much attention on the drawbacks to his game vs. what he brings. It’s weird to take for granted a near PPG player’s contributions on a team that is sometimes offensively-challenged. I’m still happy he’s on the team.

Good to be back but to be honest, I didn't feel that big rush that I usually feel when going back to the barn...maybe because I have such low expectations this season? I don't know. Will be back again on Saturday for the game and meet the players night.
I think it was because we've already played like half the season, so it didn't really feel like the "home opener".....just another chance to lose to a sucky team. Which, fortunately, we did not do! Also....everyone just waiting for the Dodgers game tonight judging by how many people (including me) were wearing a Dodgers/Kings combo jersey.

Think about it this way: the Kings are good enough to have a 4-2-2 record while barely playing 20 good minutes a night. This team might be a contender.
Whooooa. This team could easily be 2-4-2 except for an outright theft of a game by Kuemper and a standout performance for two periods from Rittich yesterday. They won 11 straight road games to start the season last year, remember? How many GOOD teams have they beaten this season?

They've got all sorts of issues - on defense, on offense and on the power play. They have exactly zero elite level talent, as opposed to actual contenders which have that at several positions. They're a contender - for a playoff spot.

I like the optimism. The teams the Kings have beat have a combined record of 8 wins and 16 losses. And those are regulation losses. And yes the Kings do only play a decent 20 minutes per night. There is a reason.
