i'm honestly shocked that such cin?astes as adgy and jerseydevil are taken in by this dudes hunt and peck movies. i KNOW you've guys seen just about every movie he makes his film batters out of.

I get that he cribs...but he cribs from the best. And the overall end results are usually very entertaining i.m.o. I will not fight hard to defend his flicks because a lot of your criticisms are valid. Tarantino flicks are terribly divisive, those that love them, love them fiercely and the haters even more so. To be honest, I have a hard time understanding why folks like you and Booby don't dig this flick or other QT flicks...but I wouldn't even try to sway you.

Pretty funny stuff about M.M.= Mr. Monopoly.

To further touch upon what ges said...

From the second I saw the first trailer to Inglorious Basterds, I have had ZERO interest in seeing it. Still have ZERO interest in seeing it. It just looks stupid, stupid, stupid. And then there's that whole Brad Pitt thing...HOW do people keep thinking he can act? 8th wonder of the world, man. Seriously.

And this is why I love KT so much. If I go les, she's gonna be my gf. Brad Pitt just plays characters that just annoy the **** out of me. Although I must say if I had to pick a fav Pitt movie to watch it's Burn After Reading, because I can see him get shot in the face .

Yup, that's why I call him a hack. In fact I was REALLY disappointed when I found out that Kill Bill wasn't even original and that he even went as far as to use the exact same music from Lady Snowblood in it. Geezus, so unoriginal. I don't even know why Adgy doesn't have a problem with it when he's always one step away from penetrating the tv with his giant geek boner for Meiko Kaji anytime she's on the screen eviscerating people.

For chrissake can we all just agree to disagree as far as Qt is concerned????? I do not begrudge you your opinion...To me though Kill Bill 1+2 are 2 of the greatest AMERICAN flicks ever made...same with Pulp, Reservoir Dogs and Basterds...Qt steals...I agree, but he steals from foreign flicks that the majority of the american public will NEVER see. So he introduces dumb americans to the best of foreign films whilst telling an interesting story in a less than conventional way. I challenge you...watch 9 out of 10 flicks that get released every weekend...whether it's Jennifer Anniston, Shia LeBouf, or whoever the flavor of the month is...if Qt's flicks don't cleanse your palate, AS FAR AS AMERICAN MADE WIDE RELEASE flicks go...than you deserve what you get. I really think Qt flicks suffer from the high expectations/praise that they get/receive. While I have said time and again I get why you guys do not enjoy them, I really have to claim bull****. Name another american filmaker who has such a huge profile. At some point I think the hype neccessitates you guys crapping on his films. Just my opinion.

12 Monkeys? F.C.? Kalifornia? Sleepers? 7even? Snatch? Button?

Some darn fine acting by Mr. Pitt, if you ask me.

I have maybe 2 exceptions for Brad Pitt: Snatch and The Assassination of Jesse James. That's about it. My main issue with him, and I've said this to a few peeps here before, is, TO ME, he's always Brad Pitt playing Brad Pitt playing a character. I'm always, ALWAYS, painfully aware of the fact that it's Brad Pitt and not the character he's trying to portray. And that bugs the hell out of me. Plus, I don't get why the ladies and the gays and some straights go gaga over him. But if he were to completely disappear into a character EVERY TIME, then I'd say without hesitation that yeah, he's a GOOD actor. As it is, he's just MEH. To me.

see, I think he was tagged with that prettyboy thing early...Legends of the Fall, even Thelma and Louise...but he has arguably fought that...his small part in True Romance...Fight Club...even his work in the Oceans flicks...a lot of his work seems to be winking at that preconceived notion about him. Is he a tremendous actor...well, no. But the guy deserves some recognition for being better than he should be. I do think he disappears into the parts he plays, I just think it is way to easy to hate him for the fact that he is a good looking guy and early in his career he not only played off that, but he may have coasted on it. It's funny, the older George Clooney gets(and the farther he gets from his 'salad days') he starts to get better recognized for the work he does. I honestly hope that Brad Pitt crosses that line at some point.

That's an interesting point you have there K&T. But, isn't acting something more than just "acting" (in terms of "pretending", if you know what I mean)? I once talked to an actress and she argued "anyone could do that" and that the best actors aren't the ones who fully buy into their respective roles and characters, but rather the ones who can always contribute something of their very own. I mean, what makes a particular actor like B. Pitt charismatic, is exactly HIS own representative "style", right?

Martin Scorcese

and i'd much rather watch a Wes Anderson or Coen Brothers film any day.

and again... there are a couple of QT movies i liked. primarily those he does when he has a babysitter...though you could identify his part in Sin City with your eyes closed (and it was the most ridiculous moment...) :suspicious2:

i enjoyed Reservoir Dogs, True Romance, Curdled, Four Rooms and Jackie Brown... i thought Pulp Fiction was entertaining but WAY FAR WAY overrated and to me Kill Bill and Basterds are Pulp Fiction in a different milieu, and strangely enough, aside from that horrible mess Natural Born Killers, those are THE two films i absolutely did NOT enjoy whatsoever.

it's almost the exact same reason why i cannot stomach nearly all hip-hop music made today.

clearly my reaction born into pattern cannot solely be in the wake of any hype.

i talked to blando and darby before i watched it and both said i wasn't missing much. to which blando also said it (Basterds) was easily the most self-indulgent film he's done yet... and after watching it, i completely agree.

This is an interesting point, one I agree with for sure, and one that even I, who doesn't care for Pitt or his work, would like to see happen for him.

And for the record, I have seen a lot of his movies, and I've TRIED to like him as an actor, to see what others see, to stop being picky and just "enjoy" his work, but he just always falls short for me. I'll hold out a bit of hope for the Clooney effect JD just mentioned.

I think that Pitt is a better actor than Clooney, and Clooney is definitely the type of guy who does not disappear into the role. I don't necessarily think it is always a bad thing (Jack Nicholson is almost always Jack Nicholson but he's damn fun to watch anyway).

As far as QT is concerned, I don't think him being "derivative" is always a bad thing. "Talent borrows, genius steals." Every movie is derivative to some extent and I don't think a movie that is less derivative is automatically better, or more praiseworthy, than one that is more so.

For the record, I thought "Pulp Fiction" was incredibly original and is one of my all-time favorite films. "Jackie Brown" is another I enjoyed greatly and "Reservoir Dogs" had quite a bit to offer as well. "Basterds"? Meh. I didn't care much for "Kill Bill," either.

It's undeniable that the subtlety of a quality hommage is lost on QT but for some damn reason it just doesn't bug me half as much when he lifts something versus when most other filmmakers do it. I can't explain it.

So I'm about to watch Renaissance. I've tried 5 times but I always get distracted and then stop watching. LOL. I'ma try this time though!
