Alright, I haven't done this in a while.
Don't Look Now - ****, I had been wanting to see this for so long. It was streaming on Amazon Prime for free and I just about pissed myself. It shows pretty regularly in Best Horror Movie Ever lists and it's been out of print in the US for a while for some reason. Anyway, I liked it a lot. It wasn't what I was expecting at all, and it's the kind of movie where you're WTF'ing the whole time and after it was over I wanted to watch it again. Like a lot of Nicolas Roeg's movies, it doesn't explain everything for you and leaves a lot open to interpretation. Best Horror Film ever? Not a chance. Great? Yeah, ok. The climax was fantastic.
Cropsey - A documentary about a bunch of missing children and the search for who might have been responsible, all centered around a creepy, abandoned mental institution. Not a bad film, but not a great one, either. Some decent atmosphere and an interesting story, but it was really obvious the people making it were fairly new at doing so. The creepiest thing in the film, BY FAR, was the parts of the real expose done on the hospital while it was in in business done by none other than local news reporter Geraldo Rivera. That **** was TRULY chilling. There's a documentary that's been made about the actual hospital that I wouldn't mind checking out at all after seeing this.
Mean Girls - So Boobytrap and I have been watching 30 Rock and DVD and we're both kind of head over heels in love with Tina Fey now, so when we saw this was also streaming for free on Amazon Prime, we decided to give it a shot. It's actually pretty funny. I don't care if I never see it again, but it wasn't bad.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Yeah, for some reason BoobyTrap and I started watching the second one on cable one day and I got this flood of nostalgia as I remembered every single line and scene in the movie, something I thought I had long forgotten. And I was reading up on who did the various voices on IMDB and some review I saw said that the first movie was a lot better and was really "dark". Than I saw that Sam Rockwell was in it, and I decided I wanted to see it again. It sucks really bad. It isn't funny and it's really poorly done. But, man, I used to love it so much when I was a kid. It was weird seeing all this stuff I had forgotten but seeing it I remembered it all. Sam Rockwell was only in it a little, but that's better than not at all.
Pootie Tang - Louis CK wrote and directed this?! It had some funny parts, but was mostly uneven and just ok. I guess the studio removed CK and his editor from the editing room and didn't let them have final cut of the film, so I'll let it slide.
Resident Evil: Afterlife - Meh. Not even sure why I bothered exactly. I guess just to see Milla Jovovich be all bad ass. Movie still sucked, though.
Tyrannosaur - Impressive as ****. The guy I know best for playing Swanney in Trainspotting and the girl I only know as the dumb female cop in Hot Fuzz both turn in incredible performances. I mean... damn. This one will stick with you. ****ing loved it.
OSS 117: Cairo, Nest Of Spies - Pretty funny James Bond type spoof, starring the actor and actress from The Artist. Looking forward to watching the sequel sometime soon. Recommended.
Kung Fu Panda 2 - I liked the first one better. Fun, but not really anything spectacular, I thought. Boobytrap liked this one better than the first, though.
Due Date - Not bad. Had some good funny parts. ZG's schtick is getting a little old, though.
Chronicles Of Narnia: Voyage Of The Dawn Treader - On one hand, it's kind of sad that they probably won't get to finish making the movies for this whole series. On the other hand, the movies are kind of lame and so I don't really care much.
Coffy - I still haven't seen too many blaxploitation films, but of the ones I have seen, this is by far my favorite. Got Boobytrap to watch it and she even liked it a lot. ****, who wouldn't?! Lots of great violence and boobs. What's not to like? Pam Grier rules.
Whatever Happened To Aunt Alice? - Way over the top with some of the acting and the music, but enjoyable. I bet Geraldine Page had a lot of fun filming this.
Man Hunt - An ok movie about a guy who (sort of) tries to kill Hitler, fails, and ends up on the run from Nazis. Some great cinematography and a really cool climax, but a lot of the film bored me. All the parts with Joan Bennett, especially. She's whiney and her accent is annoying. Definitely not one of Fritz Lang's better films, although I wouldn't say it was bad.
