The Hunt - Damn, this movie was ****ed up and uncomfortable. I went into it knowing nothing about the plot, Mad Mikkelsen starring was enough for me, and so was completely unprepared for this. He plays a schoolteacher who lost his job and has taken a new one working at a kindergarten. In a small town where everyone knows everyone. One of the children, the daughter of his best friend, sort of accuses him of molesting her and **** spirals out from there. It's a deeply uncomfortable film. Mikkelsen is ****ing great. I don't know how much my man-crush on him played into it, but I had trouble watching it at points because, you know, just... ugh. Loved the way it ended. One of the better movies I've seen this year.
Mildred Pierce - BoobyTrap loves watching "Mommy Dearest", the movie about Joan Crawford being a whacked out, psycho hose beast mother, but she'd never seen any of Crawford's actual films, so we watched this. It was alright. There were parts of it I liked and parts I didn't. Don't really care to see it again, but I'd be interested in seeing the remake mini-series Kate Winslet did.
A Separation - You might not think that a movie that basically consists of 2 hours of Iranians yelling at each other would be worth watching, but this one was. Very sad, but very compelling. Liked it a lot, but it really is almost exclusively just people yelling at each other, so keep that in mind if you're thinking about watching it.
Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead - I hadn't seen this since it came out, back when Christina Applegate was pretty much the hottest woman in the world (at least, I thought so at the time. Her or Paula Abdul...). I don't remember thinking that highly of it at the time, and nothing about seeing it again changed that.
Rafureshia - This movie came out in 1995, so it's too early to say it's a Takashi Miike wanna-be. It's possible that it even had some amount of influence on his work. I don't know. There's a commentary track by Japanese cinema expert Jasper Sharp, who I like a lot, but I didn't listen to it because I thought this movie sucked. I've seen it done before and I've seen it done better. It's got that very distinct Japanese flavor of weird, perverted and random but it doesn't really have any heart or likable characters. I'm still tempted to listen to the commentary because I imagine it may have it's place as an influence, but at this point I'm having a hard time caring. Bleh. Go watch Visitor Q instead.
Repo Man - Hadn't seen this in forever. Barely remembered it, actually. Enjoyed the **** out of it, though. Harry Dean Stanton 4 Life!!!!!
Zoolander - Yeah, I'd never seen this. It was enjoyable enough, had some good funny bits, but I don't care if I never see it again.
Pusher - Nicolas Winding Refn's first flick is pretty damn accomplished for being a first flick. It's nowhere near as violent or ****ed up as I'd expected, but it's a solid gangster flick. Worth a watch. And I would say that even if it didn't have Mads Mikkelsen in it.
Pusher II: With Blood On My Hands - Mads Mikkelsen is the star of this one. Much more of a character drama than a gangster thriller, although there is some of that, too. I liked this one a lot and am impressed that Refn was doing so well already. Better than his recent output, definitely. Highly recommended.
Play Dirty - The reviews on this one aren't too positive, but I thought it was pretty great. It's like a British Dirty Dozen, with Michael Caine leading a bunch of criminals on a mission behind German lines in WWII in Africa. Would definitely watch again.
Spartacus - Hadn't seen this in forever and was actually pretty underwhelmed by it for the most part. Very obviously not a script by Kubrick, though some of his visuals are easily recognizable. It had it's moments, but I didn't like it as much as I remembered liking it before.
Sinister - Some pretty effective scares and some great imagery, but I wouldn't say it was a great movie. I liked it enough that I'd watch it again, though.
Yatterman - Takashi Miike's recent live action adaptation of this anime from the 70's was really effective at making itself feel like an adaptation of an anime from the 70's. Very weird and... Japanese. It seemed like it's kind of geared for a younger audience most of the time, but then the Mechas kind of dry hump each other and you think maybe it's for people who watched the show as kids and are now adults. I'll probably put the Blu-ray I bought of it on eBay or something because it was enjoyable enough, but I don't care to watch it again. If I want to see Kyoko Fukada in that costume again, I have Google (search: kyoko fukada yatterman). Thanks, Google!
Kill List - Available for free streaming via Amazon Prime. This movie has some of the best tension building atmosphere I've seen in quite some time. The ending was a little bit of a downer for me, partly because I'm not sure I understood what happened and partly because if what I think happened is what happened, then it didn't quite live up to my hopes. BUT, having said that, I enjoyed the **** out of it up until then and the ending wasn't enough of a problem that I wouldn't buy this at some point. I'd actually really like to watch it again and see if knowing the ending makes for a different viewing experience. Very effective, very well done.
Compliance - ****, where to start with this one? I kind of hated this movie. It is very hard to believe that the people in this film are as stupid as they apparently are, since according to what I read the events depicted in this flick are things that actually happened, and that makes it a tough watch. That aspect of it is was far tougher than what was actually happening on screen. How could they be so ****ing stupid to be doing this? I dunno. If the point of the film was to get you mad or get the word out so that this kind of thing doesn't happen again, well, mission accomplished. It was fairly well done and very well acted, but I would not watch it again. Very frustrating.
The Wicker Man - First off, why the **** did I wait so long to see this? Secondly, why the **** is this not available on Blu-ray so I could purchase a copy immediately after watching it? I LOVED this movie. Loved loved loved. Bizarre and hilarious in all the right ways. I need to own it.

Only liked Zoolander??? man that's Stiller's best, well that and Mystery Men. Gotta check out the Hunt. Have you seen the Pusher redo Adge. I think it's Netflix streaming now. And yeah...Compliance is designed to irritate and frustrate, give it a few days and once you get over that you will realize it's a good flick. Did Bt watch with you? When we saw it at the Nuart, Kingsqueen was ready to yell BULL**** and walk right out of the theater. So I wonder how your missus felt about it if she watched.

Okay, I really liked Spring Breakers. The trailers and ads make it look like some teeny bop movie to see hot girls scantily clad, but it's pretty far from that. I loved the atmosphere and visual imagery of the movie, I wouldn't put Harmony Korine in the same class as Inarritu or Kar Wai Wong but he definitely has a great eye for his shots. I was very pleasantly surprised by the movie. If you watch it don't go in expecting some shallow bulls*** flick, because at its heart it's a very artistic film about the debauchery of this generation.
This will probably make JD rage but I ****ing HATED Return of the Living Dead 1 & 2. Watched it at a friend's house and just couldn't get into it, didn't make me laugh or scared, just bored out of my ****ing head.
Rosemary's baby is one of the best movies of all time. Not just one of the best horror movies, one of the best movies period.
Decided to check out A Horrible Way to Die. Piqued my interest because of Simon Barrett's involvement and I liked his stuff in V/H/S. It's a decent enough serial killer flick, I liked the non-cliche ending. Nothing groundbreaking or extraordinary, just a solid flick.
Not very fond of zombie movies but I love pretty much everything Sarah Polley does so it kind of balanced it out. Dawn of the Dead is pretty intense, I haven't seen the original but I thought this version was alright. Still like Shaun of the Dead better though.
The Caller is very similar to Frequency, except the person from the past is a complete psycho bitch. I enjoyed it so if you're bored on Netflix it's worth checking out.

I prefer the original Dawn to the remake, though I did like the remake (Zack Snyder's best feature film!).
BTW, if you haven't seen the dramatic feature Away From Her, directed by Sarah Polley, it's very good.

I actually walked OUT of E.T. (in under ten minutes) to see a Stallone movie (which turned out to be an advanced screening of First Blood)...and my family didn't even realize I snuck out... They knew that I didn't want to see it in the first place (due to the over-hype but finally agreed when my allowance was to be cut off for more than six months if I didn't go)... The heavier clue was my seating position (as close to the door as possible rather than within the first five rows)... I did see it ten years later...and felt justified for walking out on that huge stinking pile of manure in the first place...
Here's the funny part about that Stallone movie... Two weeks later...I got a $50 check for "reviewing" the movie (my first paid review job...even though it was unofficial at the time)... Too bad one of my favorite scenes got cut slightly in the official release...but other than that...it was perfect...at least for a Stallone movie...

The guy that played the deputy(also in The River/tv, the Grey...) Joe Anderson, was also very good. I thought the Crazies was pretty strong although it petered out at the end.
