Last Movie Watched

Watched this last night finally. Liked it a lot.

Saw A Most Dangerous Year today. Liked it a lot but a little something was missing. Isaac and Chastain were both really good.

In the process of watching this.

It is my first foray into Anime movies and so far I am very good with it.

Watched 300: RoaNE and it sucked balls. What an awful movie.

Best part was the 5 second flashback to the original 300.

Haha, I just recorded that off HBO to watch some random day six plus months from now when I am bored and my need for violence is greater than my standards.

I hope those 5 seconds are either that dude getting kicked into the pit or Lena Headey doing what she won't do on Game On Thrones.

Meh, didn't think it was horrible. Awesome to look at at the very least. But yeah, towards the end of the flick it felt like there was more cribbing of Snyder's footage than actual new footage.

I can agree that it was a cool looking film but Sepia Tone couldn't save the bad acting, sans the chick that played Artemisia (marginally). The acting was not good, at all. Maybe it was intentional to match the comic book style of the movie but I thought the acting sucked.

Saw this last night and while I usually like to think about a movie a day or two before writing about it...not this time. YOU NEED to go see this. Funny, clever as hell and just chock full of surprises. I was always a Roger Moore Bond guy and that's where this one firmly starts...and they even reference. But oh, the places it goes. Wonderfully violent. There is one scene that I can't wait till someone loops it on youtube. Don't worry, you'll know when you see it. Everyone is terrific. Samuel L Jackson does more than just earn a paycheck, Firth(who I haven't really been fond of) is pitch perfect and the new kid carries the movie nicely. Mark Strong does his usual solid work too. I remember when I saw Snowpiercer last year and told you it was my movie of the year until it got unseated. Well, I know we aren't halfway through February but I am marking this one as the one to beat. Go Now. Go!!!!!!!

I saw Jupiter Assending. I wanted to leave about an hour in. It was terrible. Save your money and time avoid it like a Ducks game. Actually I would have rather a Ducks games over it.

I saw it this weekend and second the recommendation. It was a LOT of fun. Even better than the comic.

Special extra love to the fight sequences, especially the long one in the church, for being done extremely well. They were fast, and there was no sign of the dreaded close-up or quick-cutting that seems so pervasive in Hollywood action lately. They may or may not have CGI'd Firth's face on someone else's body, but whoever was doing the moves... you could SEE them being done. There was some actual, honest to god smart action choreography here, and that made me enjoy the movie much more.

So, yeah, highly recommended.

Nope...

Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn reveals the secrets behind the church scene, that sex joke, and more

Did you use tricky editing or special effects to string the long takes together?

It’s all for real. I didn’t want any wirework. Poor Colin was out there for six months training and training and training. That’s why I call it a ballet because in a weird way, fight sequences are just dances. We wanted to do it so that we could make it more hypnotic in the length of it. People say, “Oh, it’s too long.” I’m going, “No, it’s not too long. It’s making a point.” Normally, a scene like that you’d have one hundred cuts: left, right, and center, shaking the camera around so you have no idea what’s going on. That’s why I think people are surprised by it, because you can actually watch what’s happening and just follow it as a story.

Exceeded predictions...Kingsmen sequel should get announced any minute now. Seriously, I tell you to see a lot of stuff...but this is one you shouldn't miss.

Hurm. Lots of love for this on here and in the media. Didn't work for me as much. Started off good, but once the main character got his revenge...and shed the more interesting aspects of his story, it kinda went off the rails. They ask you to buy in to a few things that I had problems with, like nobody calling the police. Or his friend from childhood not only having guns but being more than ok with just handing him one. Then I realized this was in (was it) Virginia...and it got a little easier to reconcile some of that. But, overall...it was this weird mishmash of mumblecore indie film with delusions of grandeur. There were a lot of people that gave this movie credit for being a profound meditation on the futility of revenge that I just don't think it earned. Your mileage may vary.

Hurm. I know Adgy has been waiting for my thumbs up/down on this one...well I can't help you little brother. It's a frustrating movie. First off...the lead gal is terrific. Without her this movie is a fail. But it is sooooooooooooo inside the 'industry' that it felt like a primer for the hacky folks that hang out at the Strasberg Institute around the corner from my neighborhood. Hard to like a lot of these folks and it really made me glad I never had to audition in my life. It goes a little Rosemary's Baby and 'things' happen to the lead gal. She sells the metamorphosis...BUT, and this is a big one...it was generally the same outline that I had seen in a movie about a Shivers type disease called Contracted. Almost note for note to the point of plagiarism. That being said...not a horrible movie...but not one I can recommend either. Like I said, frustrating.

Saw this for the first time in a while last night. Forgot just how good it was. Despite Natalie Portman's 'acting' and Madonna like English accent. Haven't read the source material, so I don't care how faithful it was. Noticed Alan Moore had his name removed from the credits(again) so I can't imagine they were as faithful as some might want. It's funny, I never noticed how SPOILERS

V's head****ing of Portman's character is so similar to MARTYRS...but a lot less brutal. Say what you want about the Wachowskis...they are ambitious storytellers.

The only problem I had with that movie, story-wise, was the ending.

But, dude, why have you not read the book yet? It's so good!

I realized after watching the movie the other day that I had to correct that. I have it earmarked for SDCC 2015 as a Hall H line timekiller. Figure I will pick up a copy there on Preview Night so that I can say I actually bought a comic @ Comicon.

We saw Blackhat and I'm sorry we wasted the money. The best part of this was the popcorn. Still not sure what the movie was about. Almost a remake/ripoff of the original Tron movie but stupider
