Spike Lee Movie Theme Recap.

Part 2.

Bamboozled (2000)- Film about how a Blackface minstrel show gets made as a joke, but it accidentally becomes popular. Interesting, bizarre, and outrageous. Obviously, very overhanded at times and it's sometimes uneven, but a fascinating watch for me. A brave and bold movie to put out there.

Inside Man (2006)-Probably the most mainstream film I watched for this theme. Movie is about a bank heist in which a disguised criminal gang blends in with the hostages to try to escape. Some commentary about greed and corruption. Pretty satisfying thriller with a good cast of Denzel Washington, Owen Wilson, Jodie Foster, and Christopher Plummer.

School Daze (1988)- Takes places at a Black University, focusing on the day to day life of students, rivalries, and whatnot. And a musical to boot, haha. This is a very early Spike Lee movie and it felt very uneven for me. Probably the most uneven movie that I watched for this theme. But it has enough good moments.

Do the Right Thing (1989)- The only re-watch I did for this theme. Ha! Movie about racial tensions erupting in one of the hottest days in NY. I enjoyed re-watching this and I believe this movie definitely deserves its reputation.

Malcolm X (1992)- Biopic about Malcom X played by Denzel Washington. Covers a lot of history and once again Washington's performance in a Spike Lee movie is a highlight. Well done.

10 movies in total! I really enjoyed doing this theme. Granted I focused on the more better regarded of his films, but taken as such, Spike Lee has put some really interesting and unique films dealing with a variety of issues. Pretty eclectic and he can do mainstream Hollywood movies or more niche stuff.

Now I move on to my next theme: David Cronenberg Movies!

Finally watched Rush, which is funny since neither my mom nor mini had seen it either. Really enjoyed it even though the racing scenes were an odd mix. Hemsworth was great at Hunt and Bruhl was fantastic. Also really liked Alexandra Lara as Marlene.

I watched Nope! Kind of dumb, but I'm a sucker for sci-fi so I enjoyed it.

Wassup HC...so cool to see familiar names...
I have a NIGHTMARE mother, so Beau is Afraid...sorta worked for me. It's one of those flicks that may take time to be appreciated. Or...it might be utter sh*te. I'd say sorry you didn't like, but it probably means you are more emotionally intact. So...congrats.

I thought BodiesBodiesBodies was brilliant. The end justified ALL of it. Such a perfect commentary on today's youth.

That 250k is gonna come in real handy. :mhihi: :cheers

Birdbox. Meh. Predictable, too many open ends...passed the time, but beyond that it was a bit of a snoozer.

Revolutionary Road. It was a little too close to home. But good movie. Kate and Leo should do the Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore thing and make movies every ten years.

The last movie I saw was the movie Casino from '95. I advise everyone who is interested in the topic of gambling and casinos. It's very entertaining.

The Barbie Movie

You know I was pretty indifferent about this movie until yesterday when I saw the AI generated Obama and Biden wearing pink suits picture, genius. Hey, if wearing a cute pink outfit, sitting in an amazing air conditioned theater eating peanut M&Ms is a protest...gurl, in.

Went in cold, and was not prepared for what I saw. Drugs would have helped. It was genre defying. Is it surrealism? Is it camp? Is it a musical? Is it a multi-generational feminist statement piece against the patriarchy? Is it a comedy? Is it a costume drama without british accents? No idea. But it totally gave me summer popcorn movie vibes. And, I'm here for it.

Where Barbie starts and where it ends is a journey but if you're willing to take the ride, you may be surprised how it makes you feel. And, I've seen the future: West Hollywood this year for Halloween, will be poppin'. Oh, so many, many options. =)

Ryan Gosling as Ken made me personally uncomfortable for half the movie until I realized why, "The Place Beyond the Pines" (subtle and slow burning film, not sure I can recommend it but glad I did see it). Ryan was this platinum blonde carny with jail tattoos just being a straight-up trash F-boi. As Ken, same hair, flawless body, squeaky clean skin doing an homage to a well adjusted Zoolander. Unnerving, which my mind could not reconcile as the opposite side of that f-boi carny coin. Again, drugs would have taken the edge off. Anyway, take your daughter, take your friend, take a date, have fun...oh yeah Will Ferrell is in it but does not ruin it. =)

I went to the cinema for the first time since the pandemic.

Really good. And Godzilla was SCARY.

Killers of the flower moon.

A good movie, but nothing that Scorsese hasn’t done before. Basically a mob movie set on Texas Indian land. DeNiro plays the same character He always plays only this time with a southern accent. Not a bad movie…certainly well done but also a retread of every other mob movie scorsese has ever done albeit a different setting.

Dune part 2.

This was better than the first one, but that's largely because there are less plot points to cover here. Mainly Paul and his mother being in Arrakis, his ascendancy, and the consequences of that. And it has almost 3 hours to cover it, haha.

Really cool costume and art design and soundtrack.

So I was generally pleased. ;) :good:
