****ing hilarious.

Agree. Loved all the actors, but all the parts with JK Simmons really made me LMAO. Brad Pitt was great as well.

Trippy. I haven't seen too much of Ryan Gosling's work, but he does a FANTASTIC job in this.

Visually stunning. Just, gorgeous.

Been on a John Ford western thing lately. Monument Valley looks so cool in his movies.
Both happen to star John Wayne:

Decent story, ok acting. DeNiro and Pacino make the movie. But I did enjoy them as foes in Heat rather than partners in this.

Up next within the next week...
Burn After Reading
Dark Knight
Bangkok Dangerous
Traitor

Just saw the restored print of The Godfather at the Arclight. My all time favorite movie and it was a great treat to see it on the big screen. I had seen it once before in a theatre but the print was pretty bad. The new restored print looks amazing but what really stood out was the audio. A lot of the dialogue seems to be synced better and the new surround mix sounded amazing. Really worth checking out if you can. I'm gonna try to get back sometime this week to see part II.

And also like everyone else has been saying, I loved Burn After Reading as well. I loved the way it all ended, just note perfect.

Watched Papillon tonight. Steve McQueen, Dustin Hoffman... It's was good, yet long. And upon thinking about it, it was fairly similar to Shawshank Redemption.

Papillon (1973)

I checked this film out without knowing much about it except that it was a film by the great Swedish director Ingmar Bergman. Boy was I in for a treat.

I have never in my life seen a film quite like this one. The story is about the reunion of three sisters, one of whom is dying, and their servant. The film is masterfully shot, and Bergman brings out incredibly raw emotion from each of the principle characters. He also induces a bit of sexual discomfort in the viewer in a few of the scenes. Some of Bergman's best work is in this film - the scene in which the servant Anna embraces the dying Agnes is one of the most moving pieces of cinema I've ever seen.

If you love cinema and want to experience a true work of art from a master filmmaker, go see this film ASAP.

An amazing film. Rene Clement ventured where not too many filmmakers have had success - portraying the innocence of children who are forced to endure things no child should have to experience. It revolves around an orphaned girl and an abused child who try and make sense of the horrors of war. It's not a tear jerker, just a frank snapshot into the lives of these children. Highly recommended.

Ended up with the Criterion release of this a few months ago and finally watched it Saturday night. I've seen it a few times going back several years, and this treatment looked ****ing GREAT. Wow. I'd forgotten how awesome the the black-and-white photography was. A few very obvious flaws, but intense and nevertheless a classic to be sure. Really enjoyed it. Great soundtrack too.

Oh yeah.... LOTS more bare breasts than I remember. Eh, I can live with it. :baby:

Watched Choke with Adgy the day after we came back from FF.

I thought this movie was awesome. I've never read any of Palahniuk books before watching this but I'm definitely interested now. There was about 4 people besides us in the theater and we were the only ones laughing during the movie, which is unfortunate because the movie is hilarious. I love Kelly MacDonald!

Watched Gosford Park again tonight. MAN I love that movie.

Oh look another Kelly MacDonald movie! Man, Ketel, you are too cool. ;)

Went to the Arclight last night for the AFI night at the movies event they had. Saw Silence of the Lambs presented by Jodie Foster. She gave a nice introduction and talked about the final scene where she is in the dark in the basement and how long it took to film that scene. I never noticed before but she pointed out the biggest problem was trying to eliminate shadows since you shouldn't see shadows in the dark, but they couldn't completely do it so you still see shadows behind her. Said if it were filmed today they would have been digitally removed. I never even thought about the presence of shadows before so now that is going to pop out to me everytime. I hadn't seen the movie in a number of years and it still holds up quite well. Hopkins is just amazing in it. It was nice to see it on the big screen as well. The print hadn't been restored but it still looked in good shape, some grain but nothing bad. It was a cool event. I tried to go last year but it sold out pretty quick. Did anyone else go to this?
