We got a kick out of this campy carnage comedy. Pretty well done, actually. Even LOL'd a few times.

this was a great movie! Geoffrey Rush is one of my favorites and he didn't disappoint here. I was getting a lil upset that it took awhile for more Geoffrey Rush scenes, but I get why it happened that way. The only thing that I thought was strange was the way it ended.

and finally
Hot-Tub-Time-Machine-DVD-Packshot.jpg

yes, it took me this long to finally watch this. borrowed it from a friend. now, I enjoyed this movie, BUT i did not find it AS hilarious as everyone made it out to be. still, i give it a 2 thumbs up cuz i love the 80's.

Probably the best Romero Zombie after his first three, which may not be saying a lot, but still.

I will never get tired of watching this film. Whenever, I am watching a Bogart film and he is about to hit somebody, I have to yell, let him have it Bogie, and he usually does! :D

Saw True Grit a couple nights ago. Anyone who is a Coen brothers fan shouldn't miss it, it doesn't disappoint and is worth seeing on a large screen.

Look, I don't profess to watch half of the Korean movies a lot of you guys do. But I have seen my fair share so I am not a novice at least...after reading all of the testimonials from you heavy hitters, I rushed out to see this. Did I miss something? Better than Oldboy...um no. As a matter of fact this movie was kinda boring and the end on the train tracks(really, the results from America chose to get there just then????) was like a basketball game...5 minutes stretched into 40. I am confused and disappointed.

FINALLY got my first taste of Tarkovsky. Been meaning to watch this for a while. Solaris is one of the most beautiful, thought-provoking films I've seen. Impatient viewers will likely find this dull and stretched out, but if you like being absorbed by films that create profound environments and pose questions about humanity, then you can't not love this movie. Can't wait to see some more Tarkovsky films.

I know one of the few criticisms of the film is that it's a bit too long, but it's not like it's drawn out to the point of ruining the movie.

I hope you weren't expecting Memories of Murder to be similar at all to Oldboy. Not much similarity between the two besides that they are both Korean. MoM is not a bloody revenge-driven movie, it's all about the atmosphere, the outstanding cinematography, the characters, and setting (South Korea and the sheer incompetence of its criminal justice system). I also found the film refreshing because of its originality, as it's most certainly not your typical Hollywood murder mystery. Just little subtleties like the mannerisms of the autistic dude and the cloud of oppression that hangs over the detectives as they try to solve the case. Also, the movie gives a brilliant snapshot into South Korean society during the 80s when the country was undergoing a lot of political unrest.

My suggestion would be to maybe watch it again in a year or 2. Until then, if you want to see another Korean movie you should check out Chaser if you haven't seen it already, I think it'd be a lot more to your liking.

No...I wasn't expecting a simple bloody action flick...and I get your point about the snapshot of Korean society, etc. But I do think that it was overly long to the point of ruining the movie. The only thing I got from all of the 'police' except for the one detective from Seoul was that it was better to beat a confession out of an innocent than it was to actually find the guilty party. I can 'do' foreign films...even slower, more subtle ones, it's not that I need lowbrow stuff. I read the reviews from folks like you, Otto and Gescom and I knew to expect a more sophisticated flick. I just didn't find it to be this great flick. Like I readily admitted, maybe I missed the point.

Oh, :friends: and Chaser is in my bag right now...prolly watch it later.

Watching this now...it's the original sound(vocals/music...the whole shebang) with different forms of animation/art in place of the movie. It's schizo as hell and uneven(150 artists and animators) but interesting in an art school kind of way. Some of it plays like a motion comic, yet there is computer art, puppets, stop motion...it's pretty groovy if you are patient. Can't really recommend it, but if it sounds cool to you, you should check it out.:target:

EDIT: Ok, at around the 1:08 minute mark this thing turns all cool weirdness meets hallucenogenic nightmares...nice payoff.

Awesome movie by Federico Fellini recounting bittersweet memories of his childhood. Not as good as8 1/2 or La Strada but a good film nonetheless.

OK...produced by David Lynch...directed by Warner Herzog. Michael Shannon/Udo Kier/Grace Zabriskie/Brad Dourif/Willem DaFoe...I get it. This is 'experimental cinema'. As a huge Lynch fan I went into this eyes wide open...but when Michael Shannon, Brad Dourif and a midget in a tuxedo look at the screen for a couple of minutes...no lie, a couple of minutes, while some Italian opera music plays in the background...well, I have my limits. God bless Michael Shannon because he appears to be in an entirely different movie than everyone else. I guarantee that 99% of this movie was made with the actors being thrust into scenes with no dialogue to sink or swim with improv. OOOOOf, even Adgy, who is a Herzog fan, would have a hard time defending this. If you can make it through to the end...I salute you.

OK...maybe I am simple...no...scratch that...I am simple. But this movie is so 'mercifully untouched by the ravages of intelligence'. It's a hard movie to not like.

I saw this in the theater and enjoyed it, actually. Very strange, no doubt, but I thought it was pretty funny in a Herzog type of way.

Wow you are truly a masochist. I have slogged through so many bad movies...never once walking out of a theater, but if this had been playing on an airplane...I would have walked out.

damn that is serious, LOL

i think i'm watching Resident Evil tonight, the 4th one. or what number are we on now? oh well i will find out tonight.

Friday I did a Jeff Bridges double feature with Tron: Legacy and True Grit.

One thing I have to ask about Tron: Legacy, where the f*** did Flynn get all those books and food? How? Anyway, the movie looks great. Aside from the visuals...meh.

Thought True Grit was really good.

Look...just don't watch this. If you have ANYTHING better to do...do it. This film isn't worth a handful of monkey jizzum.

Watched a lot of movies this weekend.

Not bad, but not great. Has some good funny bits.

Hilarious. Liked it a lot.

Funny. I like Emma Stone more and more every time I see her in something.

Heh! Did you know Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier do a commentary track for this? It's pretty entertaining. The movie itself is pretty unintentionally (I assume) funny, too.

Good stuff, of course.

****ing classic. The Blu leaves a little to be desired, though. Very grainy still. Tsk.

If not for Kelly Hu and some good body exploding bits, I doubt we would have even bothered to finish it.
