I posted this on the Horror thread but this movie deserves a little more notice.

Wow. I still have to watch the dirty end of this. I honestly had to turn it off. It has all of the horrible earmarks of low budge, it resembles a student film, takes itself horrible serious, has questionable dialogue/acting/direction/composition...yet, if you have sat through enough ****...you recognize a great idea/voice when you see one. This film won me over. It ain't perfect, but man oh man is it topical and evil. If you can sit through bad filmaking(due to inexperience/budget) the payoff is worth it. This ain't for everyone. But if you fancy yourself an adventurous movie fan, YOU MUST SEE THIS.

Pretty solid serial killer flick, not a big fan of Costner but this movie was entertaining enough

I've seen this movie a bunch of times, it never gets old. Not really a realistic depiction of war but I love Malick, he makes such beautiful and poetic films.

Saw "The Tree of Life" today. Oh boy/yikes! Does it have it's own thread yet?

I saw Hangover 2. So....many...(You'll see) I loved it more then the first.

I saw this Monday and I really liked it. I thought it probably could have done without the birth of the Universe and dinosaur segment, but otherwise I thought it was a moving story with fantastic cinematography. Definitely not for everyone. My wife was bored for the most part.

Another one I thought deserved a better fate than to be relegated to the HORROR thread.

Boy meets girl, boy makes deal with the scariest devil on film in a while to get the heartshaped birthmark off his face & body, boy wins girl, demon hooligans stalk the streets...then it gets weird. Ok...there are parts of this flick where you kind of have to squint and cover a few little faults...but when a movie with obvious budget limitations TRIES SO DAMNED HARD and gets great acting across the board, it's easier to forgive. This is so worth a look. Great story and a solid ending along with the acting more than make up for the snags in the journey. Highly Recommended.

I think I just watched teh all time worst Linda Blair movie of all time...

Roller Boogie

It made The Exorcist Part II look like an Academy Award winner... Now I can understand WHY the RAZZIES gave her that lifetime achievement award...

Weekend watching:

VERY bizarre documentary about reclusive woman and her mother who live in a big, dilapidated mansion in New York. Kind of fascinating, but at the same time, I don't think I needed to see an hour and a half of it. I didn't find them that compelling.

Very Hitchcock-ian film about Siamese twins and murder. The ending was a little confusing, but I liked it quite a bit. In particular, there's a very surreal dream sequence in the last half of the film that I liked quite a bit.

Still funny, still awesome. One of my favorite endings ever.

Gray Gardens is basically watching a spinster and her screetchy ass annoying mother for 1 1/2 hrs. (And SOMEONE doesn't want to watch MY girly movies?)

Sisters was cool, Margot Kidder's crappy French Canadian accent was NOT COOL.

Hmmm. Torn on this one. First off, I am so late to the party on this, I know.
Part of me wants to dig on this for the old Hammer-like vibe that this manages, the good performance by the lead, Tom 'I do creepy well' Noonan...
But I have to be honest. Sure this movie has creepy tension that works pretty good, but at 96 minutes long it DRAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGS. First off, it's so ****ing obvious. Secondly, I think Ti West thought that taking a barebones(and hacky) idea and stretching the **** out of it in the interest of generating tension was a great idea. And he figured, 'hey, I can stunt cast with genre vets and pull off a Houdini like miracle'. See, there is real tension here...at first. Then, as you keep looking at how much time is left the tension becomes, 'will I pull a Boobytrap and FFWD like a madman(woman). And they wrap it up with an anti-climactic climax and very little in the way of explanation. Normally I wouldn't be so harsh on an indy horror flick that really ain't that bad...but the genre classic status that has been bestowed on this is a case of OVER-RATED!!!!!!!!

I agree. It wasn't a bad film, and there is a lot to like about it, but for the most part it left me wanting.

Watched this last night:

I remember reading about how dark this movie was when it came out, and, man, that was pretty accurate. Unfortunately, I didn't find it anywhere near as funny.

It wasn't a bad movie, it had some funny parts and I really liked the turn it took, but... ehh. It was ok.

Let me get this out of the way. I DESPISED this movie. So much so that I actually jotted down notes while I was watching it because I want to alert you guys just how dreadful this movie is.
First off...this is not an action movie. Nor is it a comedy. It fails on both counts. Horribly. It basically lurches from scene to scene with jerky abandon and no self awareness. Seth Rogen lost a lot of weight for this part and all for nothing. Apparently he felt he had to 'act', the problem is that his character is written as a one-note douche who you would strangle in real life. Seth Rogen's best attribute has been his slobby charm...which is completely absent here. Jay Chou is likeable, but if Dr Naysay found the guy in Thor(from the warrior's 3) distracting, then HE NEEDS TO STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS. Chou's broken engrish is grating. Cameron Diaz...well, who cares? They sure didn't. She has no reason to exist in this movie. Edward James Olmos/Tom Wilkinson...ditto. As a matter of fact Wilkinson plays his father(who dies and motivates him to be a hero), dies offscreen and the scene feels like a reel was missing. No drama/tension here at all. A major plot point is that Britt Reid is trying to generate buzz for the Green Hornet by constantly featuring them on the front page of his father's newspaper, but a sleep gun that Kato makes accidently puts him in a 11 day coma. Well, wouldn't any buzz dissapate when he disappears for 11 days? NO thought was put into this. NONE.

One semi funny moment(which I just may have misheard) I am pretty sure Kato said 'RYUKEN'(like in Street Fighter) during one of his fights. Another good thing is that, even though, like everyone else, he is given nothing to work with, Christophe Waltz is the only one to emerge with any dignity in tact. Maybe the 3d would have been a distraction in the theater, I somehow doubt it.

Y'know Cop Out was singularly chosen as the worst movie of last year but that movie was Academy Award quality compared to this pile of crap. This movie actually made me angry.

See I didn't find it that dark... I just found it annoying and insulting. The reactions to the main plot point are just completely unbelievable and seemed to me to make a completely disdainful comment about society at large.

**** that movie and **** that guy.

Let me clear this up...

I wasn't distracted by accent... I was distracted because people had already raised the issue of the multi-ethnic cast and because those characters were supposed to have lived with one another for thousands upon thousands of years and yet one of them clearly uses "English" as a distant second language. I imagine they cast him to appeal to foreign audiences (as demonstrated by the foreign previews that feature nothing but his lines) and the fact that I'm aware of those kinds of decisions and can see how they negatively impact my viewing of the movie is very distracting. I'm sorry that I can't turn off the part of my brain that thinks about that kind of thing while I watch a mindless popcorn movie.

Enjoyed this quite a bit. VERY Jeunet, but that's a good thing, not a bad thing.

A definitive example of the term "wasted potential". The comic, and the excellent cast, deserved better.
