Shortbus is a movie that most people won't be able to stomach because it's filled with LOTS of explicit sex. My friends were making fun of it and saying how horrible it was, but I read reviews saying that it was a very good and emotional movie so I gave it a watch. I ended up really liking the film. The sex scenes are not erotic, and serve as an effective metaphor for the themes raised in the film. While many people won't be able to look past all the sexual content, at its core Shortbus is a movie that deals with the emptiness, depression, and anguish that come with being repressed and the importance of being true to yourself.

i thought it was... interesting.

i thought this was a fantastic movie save for one thing... Leonardo DiCRAPio can't act. perhaps the best interpretation of Wiiliam Gibson that he never wrote.

every person in this movie outperformed him all over this film... particularly Josh Gordon-Levitt and John Hardy.

Agreed...can't help feeling like Leo always looks like a little boy playing 'dress-up' in his dad's old suit. And I have stayed far away from Shortbus because it reminds me too much of Kids, which is the most loathesome movie I have ever had the misfortune of having to sit through.

Kids was a f***ing joke!

What a tremendous surprise...should have trusted myself and seen this in a theater. It's no coincidence that this came out the same day as SuckerPunch, 2 visually stunning movies that have lighter than air storytelling. Not sure where they went wrong with this one...I kept thinking as I was watching it that, if not for the heavy, sometimes graphic violence, this would have been a great movie for kids. I swear, all I kept thinking is that it was a beautiful as a childrens picture book with the same level plot wise. It's the old 'warrior finds the one thing that reminds him he has a heart so he turns his back on his clan and they will not let him leave' chestnut, with elements of the 'man w/no name saves town as they save him'...but it hardly matters. Good performances and, although clearly on a set/greenscreen some of the most awesome visuals...man this movie is beautiful!!!! Horribly unloved...you guys need to see this.

Wow, do ya think that Magnet wishes they could have the release date back on this'un...C'mon Sean Bean in another, albeit far different medieval type project. This is a bleak watch, but a tremendously effective look at the plague times and a really good argument for/against organized religion. The ending feels a little tacked on and unecessarily cruel but it has a nice wink wink to Witchfinder General. Don't be lulled in by the easiness of the first 2/3rds of this either, it gets wince-ingly graphic by the end. Oh, and it's always nice to see David Warner get some work.

Ehh. It was ok. At the risk of sounding like I want to have the guy's babies, Timothy Olyphant was awesome and some of the violent stuff was cool, but there were also some roll your eyes moments. Not a bad movie, but not a great one, either.

I liked this, but I'm not sure how much. I liked the Cronenberg trademark fleshy weird ****, for sure.

Fun. A great idea done pretty well.

Haven't seen this in a while.

I just realized that I really like the score. And also, I am thinking about watching some of the sequels, which I have never watched.

Man. I wanted to see this for so long. What a total slice of just plain old ****ed up. More disturbing than most horror flicks because of the sociopathic emptiness of some of the characters. It's like if S7even started with the head in the box, and travelled through the land of Hostel. This movie contains the single most violent scene of knife violence I have ever watched through my fingers. A tough watch, but a must watch. Choi Min-Sik is now in two of the most ****ed up flicks I will never forget. Wow.

A good character film. If you like Stellan Skarsgaard, then you'll love it. Lots of funny bits, but more of the "hehe" type than laughing out loud. Includes probably the best combo gross/funny sex scene(s) I've ever seen.

I liked it.

I really like a lot of the "creature" effects in this. Good, creepy fun.

After seeing the sequel at the LA Film Fest, I immediately went out and bought the DVD of the first one. It's almost as good as the sequel. In fact, I might have liked it better had I not seen the sequel first and known a little bit about what was going to happen.

The sequel is coming out this Fall, and I urge everyone to rent the **** out of this one NOW, so you can see the sequel and love it.

This was such a tonic after watching I Saw The Devil. Horribly heartbreaking and beautifully optimistic at the same time. Saw the trailer at Comicon last year, and it looked so Ivory Merchant...they downplayed the main theme of the movie so much.
SPOILER ALERT

yet it's not because they make no attempt at hiding it, these are clones, bred as replacement parts...It's made abundantly clear from the beginning. Just so moving...really...great performances all around. The best comparison I can make is (Michael Bay's) The Island...but good. And without the pat 'happy ending' Yet, despite the overwhelming sadness, it really is a movie about enjoying EVERY LITTLE MOMENT...Beautiful.

dude, you have to read the book. Ishiguro's novel is one of my favorite books of all time. the book is a MILLION times better than the movie.

Meh. If I had seen this in a theater I would be angrier. Still feel my time could have been spent better. Eckhardt is likeable enough, but I never feel that his heart is in it. He has to give this rousing emotional speech at one point(yes, this movie is chock full of every army movie cliche') and it really seems like he is just reading lines. You just get the feeling he would rather be doing something else. Avoid if you have ANYTHING better to do.

We went to go see Cars 2 but I had my movie times all screwed up. We saw this instead.

Wasn't bad and Jack Black always makes me laugh. It wasn't as good as the first one unfortunately and I do think they are setting it up for a third one.

Last night....

Had forgotten Hangover Star Brad Cooper was the ahole in this flick. He is a good actor.

Forgot how funny this movie was...probably because it gets compared to Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show and not quite as funny as those two. Parker Posey is smoking hot!

What can I say? I was in a mood. To be honest, I've only seen this a couple of times.

Weird, clever, dark...just too long and not enough of either of the three. First 3rd is good. Lots of hints and misdirection, but you get antsy waiting for the twist you can kinda see coming. Middle of the flick, ok...the main 'shamalyan' is sprung, once again...starts strong, has a few nice moments, but goes tooooooooo loooooooong. The last third of the flick, probably could have been handled better. As it is it just feels completely wtf. There is a better movie here in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing. David Hyde Pierce is clearly game(he looks old and unwell though...hopefully that was the bright lighting and bad makeup), everyone else is satisfactory...the main guy looks a helluva lot like a young Ray Liotta. But ultimately it comes off as a little amateurish. Not a terrible movie...just a movie that should have been better.

Absolute garbage. Unoriginal. Unfunny except for about 4 or 5 minutes. Downey can't save a bad script and this movie's script was baaaaaaaad.

:fpalm:
