Catching up:

This was on the top of my list of movies I wanted to see, so when the HK Blu got released, I bought the **** out of it right away. It's a funny, entertaining gangster flick. Lots of twists and turns in the plot. Loved it. Chow Yun Fat is so underrated at comedy, but he chews scenery like a goddamn pro.

I mentioned this in the movie quiz thread, but this was ****ING AWESOME. Creepy as ****. LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED IT.

Also, damn Olivia Hussey was hot.

Watched this mainly because Quentin Tarantino liked it enough to name his distribution arm under Miramax after it. Plus, it was in HD and is only available to buy through MGM's On Demand DVD-R service thing. And I'd read that it was pretty good.

It was. Not great, necessarily, but a good revenge film that's really more about what having been a tortured POW in Vietnam did to one man. It takes about 90 of the film's 99 minute run time to build up to the end, but if you've got the patience for it, it's worth the investment.

Extra points for having the youngest Tommy Lee Jones I've ever seen and for guaranteeing I will never forget William Devane's name again.

Watched the first 3 of the 8 Horatio Hornblower movies. They have all been very good so far, especially considering the limited budget. I look forward to seeing the rest of them.

When you're scrolling through the guide, looking at what is going to be showing later on the HD movie channels and you come across a WWII movie starring Robert Duvall, Michael Caine and Donald Sutherland and directed by John Sturges (Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape)... YOU DVR THAT MOVIE.

I liked it quite a bit. Sutherland was funny and Michael Caine was cool. Naturally.

God, I love John Carpenter.

Got a screener of this, which was nice since I won't be able to catch it at CineFamily. It's very much a slow burn type of horror film. The movie is about 2 1/2 hours long and the first two hours is basically this guy getting walked over by everyone. His daughter hates him, his wife won't sleep with him and some rich guy has basically taken over his life and made him accomplice to some ****ed up ****. And then he pushes the mild-mannered Japanese guy too far.

It's pretty ****ed up and at one point, I actually said to myself that I was surprised to see people doing what they were doing. In that sort of "wow, people are being paid to do this" kind of way. It was just... jeez, that's ****ed up.

I liked it a lot.

It was slow and didn't have a lot to say... but it was pretty to look at, there were some touching moments and some good laughs.

Watched "Moon" last night. Slow going until the real sci-fi kicks in half-way through. Must watch for sci-fi lovers.

Saw this last night, had heard good things and the creative team's Mulberry Street is one of the only 8 films to die for that I would watch again. Odd that it shares a title(basically) with Zombieland, because it is similarly plotted, w/vamps substituting for Zombies. That's where the similarities end. This movie has no joy...just survival from day-to-day. Complicating things are the Brotherhood...an Aryan cult that believe the vamps are sent as a tool to destroy non believers...and they drop vamps from helicopters into the few remaining outposts of civilization. It's a very dark movie and not for folks who can't hang with a slow moving story. But if you have patience and like movies that don't pander to happy endings, you may want to see this. Also Danielle Harris alert for Orpheus.

Watched "Limitless" last night. Some very cool camera work/effects, but the story is kind of one-note and obvious after the first 15 mins.

OUTSTANDING. From Hammer films this little creepfest combines Pet Semetary with Wicker man, and just gets it right. A lot of animal violence, so if you're squeamish like me in that regard, it's a little tough. Good stuff, highly recommended!

Watched "Passion Play" tonight. Wow, what a mess. It should be shown to film classes as an example of how not to write/direct. The editing was also horrible.

Everyone moans about how bad Megan Fox is, but her and Bill Murray are the only two who attempted to earn their pay. Oh and one more thing: never has there been a worse use of smoking on-screen. Ever. Some scenes had Rourke magically starting smoking half way into a scene. Ugh. A really bad movie that barely earns a 2/10.

Wow...what a shame. Made primarily for Europe, where DD is a popular comic book, the makers of this had their budget cut in half a few weeks before production. Brandon Routh, who seems a good egg, trying so hard to redeem hisself for Superman Returns, oh what could have been.

Tell you what, I LOVE THIS MOVIE. Because they had to do things cheap cgi is used sparingly and they were forced to use practical fx and wire work and old school tools. Is it genre changing? Nope. But like the ugly girl in the room, it tries harder. I spent most of my youth working in video stores w/vestron, cannon, carolco, and this movie can stand proudly next to Metalstorm:The Destruction of Jared Syn, or Dungeonmaster anyday. Just gum and tinfoil holding together a bare bones fun movie. This movie charmed the pants off me, literally...wearing no pants.

Kinda torn on this one. Hella good carnage and siege stuff. Some solid acting all around, including Jason Flemyng(pleasant surprise to see he was in this, had no idea) and a bunch of recognizable faces as the undermanned crew holding a keep from King John. I am not a history buff but even with little knowledge it felt like they fudged some of the historical accuracy. It just kinda felt enjoyable but a tad silly. Especially Paul Giamatti, who didn't so much chew scenery as get a poli-death grip on it and wrestle it into submission. Apparently the only direction he was given was to shout his lines with a voice verging on hysteria or straight up emotional breakdown. Worth a rental or a watch on cable. Lotsa heads getting halved and head/shoulder seperation, so there's that...

Ok but I see there's a chick on the poster wielding a mace of some sort. My question to you is: How did the chick fare? Is this a Boobytrap friendly movie?

Probably not. The only purpose she really serves is to tempt the Knight Templar(Purefoy) from his vow of chastity. I felt she came off a little one-note-y and overly agressive, but like I said, there is an air of silliness about this flick that kind of makes it hard to take any issues too seriously. You might have fun with it. She does get to cave a head or two in as well.

I just saw the movie The Help last night. It was nothing short of amazing. This movie had just the right mix of funny, drama, action and well rounded story that I like. It’s really hard to believe that a little under 50 years ago that this kind of stuff went on. It was a very touching movie that I recommend everyone watch.
Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer were amazing as Aiby and Minny. Bryce Dallas Howard as Hilly plays the bitch well, and Emma Stone as ‘Skeeter’ plays the na?ve woman-child perfectly.
The movie has both light and heavy parts to it, and I almost cried on three occasions.
This was a very touching movie that I hope gets it’s due.

Hurm. Watched this the other day. Questions. I guess I wasn't expecting such an INDY diy kinda flick. Probly gonna have to give this another go. Best way to describe, imagine if Kick-Ass was rubbed with the whole WATCHMEN masks = sexual perversion stuff to the Nth degree. Rainn Wilson actually exceeded, most everyone else was drawing scale for a day or two on set. Ellen Page was creepy/annoying, yet

that resolved itself nicely. The really sweet overly sentimental ending (including the long shot of R.W. weeping) really put a bow on the weird tone of this movie. It's kind of a head scratcher.

NOW THIS IS THE ****!!!!
Why did I wait so long to watch this???? CLEARLY Evil Dead influenced, yet unlike a lot of the hamfisted apefests, this one does all the right things. Almost effortlessly makes you sad when the archetypes, errr I mean characters, start dying.
Wait, getting ahead of myself. I knew within the first 10 minutes i was gonna dig this. Put it on and you will see wHat I mean.
The grue is very practical...lotsa innards on display. And every once in a while things go all styly bone white. There are scenes with the Nazi Zombies that can best be described as Yellow Submarine meets Marilyn Manson. There is one scene where a major character, after being knocked the **** out, wakes, sort of, in a veiled haze...to the sight of zombos shufffling her innards...really solid stuff here kids, WIRKOLA is a name to be watched.

Ok so I finally got around to watching this

I am a huge fan of the comic book so I was a bit worried. Nothing to worry about though. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie of the comic book. They did it right and Rorschach was (and still is) the heart and soul of the movie/story. Well done!

British/Scottish debut from Rupert Wyatt(Rise of the Planet of the Apes) look, it's a prison escape flick...so you know it's going to hit a lot of tried and true...oh hell, wait a minnit, no it isn't. Time shifty and 'we'll let you see a little bit when ya need to'...and the actors...Brian MOTHER****ING Cox, Liam(soon to be on Game of Thrones) Cunningham, Damian(LIFE...happy now Doc) Lewis, well...this is a gem boys and girls.

EDIT:Hadn't seen the end of this when I originally posted, and now that I have...even better than I thought. No wonder Wyatt did such a good job with Rise, the last 10 minutes or so of this are almost dialogue free, and I am sitting at work with a tear rolling down my face. HIGHLY recommended.
