Yeah, this. Just enough to cleanse your palate and not have the 'foreign-ness' of the original in your mind. With the remake though, through choice of locales and eras they really did replicate the off-ness of the original. So '70's...****ing BOC playing in the background and everything...man, the remake isn't bad guys.
 
I got around to watching Due Date, which was solid, if nothing spectacular. I suppose it says something about me that I found the funniest parts to be Robert Downey Jr. smacking the obnoxious kid and getting smacked around by the Western Union guy. I also enjoyed the movie the first time I saw it, when it was called Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.

This movie was really entertaining. God Bless America is an over the top satire black comedy about a middle-aged man and a precocious teenage girl who are both sick of the media's glorification and obsession with things that, in their view, don't deserve the light of day. It's like Falling Down, Bonnie and Clyde, and Natural Born Killers (with a little bit of Taxi Driver) wrapped into one.

Deadgirl (not to be confused with the drama with Brittany Murphy and Rose Byrne) was ****ing awesome, in a really ****ed up way. Basically two high school kids go to smoke out in the basement of an asylum and find a girl who's supposedly dead chained to a gurney. She's naked, looks kind of hot...that's about all I'll say. Some parts, and thew whole concept really, are pretty disturbing but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Not sure which movie I'll watch next. Debating between Fire in the Sky, Descent, and a couple others.
 
Deadgirl...gotta disagree a bit. No fault of it's own, it suffers from 'indie-filmitis' but the biggest complaint is that it pulls punches. C'mon, a movie about dudes ****ing a corpse? This movie was almost polite.

Still gotta check out God Bless...and you should go with the Descent. Skip the sequel.
 
I wasn't bothered by Deadgirl at all. Guess our tastes are a bit different (eg I wasn't blown away by Pontypool).

I'm gonna go off the board a little and watch Yam's The Road. I'll watch Descent sometime later.

Well of course. That's why we share notes. Is the Road on dvd? How distracting is the tagalog? I have watched all kinds of foreign flicks but not one from the phillipines.

WOW...first off I'm so glad JD wrote about this movie in the Horror thread, otherwise I never would have heard of it or bothered to see it. Speaking of which I have 100+ pages of that thread to sift through so I can find more movies to watch.

I cannot believe the negative reviews this film has received. The Road by Yam Laranas (not to be confused with The Road with Viggo Mortensen) is a dark horror/thriller about an unsolved murder case that gets reopened 12 years later. The atmosphere is amazing - dark, creepy, and ethereal. It's not a movie that'll make you jump out of your chair because the pacing is pretty slow but it's still very creepy and unsettling.

Seriously though...not sure why more people didn't like it. Cuz you know that feeling you get after you've watched an outstanding movie? I felt that when the credits rolled.

To sum things up, The Road is the best movie I've seen in a while, probably in the top 5 of movies I've seen so far this year. I

I don't think I've seen a Filipino movie before either. I didn't find the Tagalog distracting at all, wasn't any more distracting than any other foreign film.

Watched 100 Feet as I went to bed last night. Was an entertaining enough ghost/apparition movie. Nothing special, just entertaining. Didn't make me lose sleep or give me nightmares, but then again no movie really does that so yea lol

****ing a this movie is a pure adrenaline rush. The Loved Ones starts out a little slow but by the end the intensity reaches insane levels. The best way I can describe it is a combination of Misery, Audition, Wolf Creek,, Frontiers and Hostel. And personally I liked it better than the aforementioned films. Yes, some may call it torture porn and I can imagined being scarred by it if I watched it when I was a child (lol). And admittedly some parts were pretty hard to watch but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Damn you JD, now I'm a horror fanatic because of you lol (I guess adgy deserves a little blame too)

Just finished watching Hellraiser for the first time. I'm not a huge fan of monster/demon movies but I liked it, I mean it's a ****ing classic so I don't know if any horror fan dislikes it. I guess for me I like horror films that are either 21st century or from the 50s and 60s (The Innocents is my favorite horror movie of all time).

Gah...I should sleep so I'm not useless tomorrow
 
Saw 100 feet at Screamfest a billion years ago. Very standard, almost a Lifetime horror flick...still, entertaining as well as disposable. Gonna give Loved Ones another chance. Maybe enough time has passed since I watched it where my meter might be set to where I can judge it on it's own merits as opposed to my expectations. And I still maintain that if you edited ALL the Hellraiser flicks together you could make a great movie. All of them have epic moments, yet all of them are also soundly flawed. If you want to see the best Hellraiser flick ever, me and Luc Skybomba agree...it's Event Horizon.

I thought Event Horizon was one of the lamest movies ever. I was laughing through a lot of it after Jason Isaacs revealed where the flesh-eating monsters came from.

Oh man...so disagree. Oh well. Hey, that 100 feet callback reminds me of the other flick I saw that day...have you seen The Burrowers? You may wanna put that on the watch list.
 
Haha! Most people think Event Horizon is one of the worst movies ever while others think it's criminally underrated.

I am somewhere in the middle, lol, but closer to meh. I bought it at a Circuit City going outta business sale for 4 buck because I was hoping it would be criminally underrated. I was mislead. no:

I am still of the opinion that Hellraiser 1 & 2 are good despite their flaws.

Hey, Diehard, did you ever read Clive Barker?
 
JD: No I haven't, I'll put it on my watchlist for sure. The story sounds pretty interesting.

Orphy: No, I'm not really a fan of the type of horror he writes. I just find his stuff gross, and not in a good way.

I ended up watching one more movie last night. I saw Night of the Living Dead for the first time. Also the first Romero film I've seen. Trying to catch up on some of the classics.
 
Barker's short stories are better (I think) than his longer works. The brevity keeps him a little more focused. Once again, reminds me of a movie. Diehard have you seen Midnight Meat Train?
