Mr. I kept pimping Jodorowsky, so I gave one a try:
It's like Fellini meets Dali meets a spaghetti western... on LOADS and LOADS of LSD. Actually, it was shot very reminiscent of an acid trip: Extremely vivid, bright, sharp, contrasty and everything has a subtle (or not so) symbolic significance. Not for everyone surely, but I loved it. Here is a montage of stills and even in B&W you can see what a trip it is:
Now imagine these bizarre characters and scenes in BLAZING color. It was ****ing TREMENDOUS.
***EDIT*** I Found a color montage, better than the B&W but this still does not do justice. The pics here are muted, and the film is MUCH brighter.

Caught The Assasination of Jesse James... last weekend. A little long (at just under 3 hours running time) but it's a great character movie. Casey Affleck is a lock for an Oscar.

Don't suppose anybody will see this post before it happens, but I heard on the radio today that Sam Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch will be shown in 70 mm at the Egyptian theatre tonight, Friday, at 7:30. If you haven't seen this (I assume they're showing the director's cut) on the big screen, you should. It'll be much better than watching Boston beat the Kings tonight.
Certainly one of a small handful of most influencial and important American films ever made.

Michael Clayton - well-paced, intelligently written, beautifully shot film with some very good performances by the veteran cast - definitely worth seeing IMHO.

Anyway, I liked it. Very pretty (artsy-fartsy).
LOVED the soundtrack, of course, and LOVED seeing Nick Cave in his little cameo. That dude kicks so much ass.

i saw Lust Caution and The Kingdom last week..
i seriously think it should have been trant watching Lust Caution with adgy instead of me. i think they can both appreciate tony leung's nut sack better than i.
surprisingly, The Kingdom turned out funny all due to jason bateman. he was the best thing about that movie. the appallingly bad depiction of forensics was a hoot too.

Watched Volver over the weekend. It turned-out to be an interesting flick, especially after I found the first 30 mins to drag. It was a little long at around 2 hours running time though.

great flick...very moody. Ron Perlman(Hellboy) as always, is great. The eco-evil ending may throw some folks off, but a well done movie for people looking for something...different.
Can't say enuff about this little gem. It's an Irish horror flick, and it's a corker...great subtle horror,realistic,good characters,great minimal "rubber monster" shots...basically a movie that is really good in spite of it's budget...overall great acting...if you can...SEE IT!

I definitely agree. It was a very good movie. Definitely keeps your interest, well written. Wouldn't doubt if it gets some Oscar nods.

just watched a couple of EXCELLENT films
This is a classic psychological thriller. The direction was absolutely fantastic! This is the first film I've seen from Clouzot, and I loved every minute of it. I haven't been so engrossed and shocked in a film in my entire life. This film exceeds Psycho in my opinion, and you can tell that Hitchcock was influenced by this masterpiece. If you haven't seen it, definitely check this out.
Takeshi Kitano might be more famous for his violent films like Zatoichi, but in my opinion, Dolls is a masterpiece that exceeds anything he's ever made. Simply put, Dolls is a film about everlasting love. It's not a film you'd expect from a director like Kitano. The movie effectively intertwines three tales, each of which centers around a man making sacrifices for the woman that he loves. It's a very tragic but beautiful movie.
This isn't Hitchcock's most famous film, but after watching it I'd have to say it ranks right up there with Psycho and Rear Window. Rebecca is an outstanding film that demonstrates Hitchcock's mastery at storytelling. Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine give outstanding performances, and the story will keep you on the edge of your seat till the very end.
