We might have no choice. The front office has bungled things pretty badly. The Kings best approach this coming year might be just let it ride, let Q, Laffy, and the other young players grow another year and improve. Let Kopi finish his career, and finally let go of the notion that the team can compete for a Cup. Rather, start focusing on the future. Not a rebuild, just biding time.
Let's be honest, though. Gav and/or his agent has always been all about the money. Even after the Kings traded for him they had a difficult time signing him to an extension (and overpaid to do so). Everyone involved knew it would be even more difficult to extend him again without compromising price, term and protection.I wonder if it has to do with where he wants to fit on the roster. He was a perfect top pair D for us until an injured player came back and took his place, even when he was struggling. I have a feeling he wants to be where he can be on that top pair. If so - chalk another W up for Hiller.
Wouldn’t surprise me a bit if we offered him more and he still decided to leave…to the Rangers 7x7
