LeBrun: Gavi Hitting Free Agency

Gavi has an opportunity to play alongside Fox in a bigger hockey market...maybe that's all it is? Gotta believe that the Kings were pretty much willing to match a NYR offer unless their offer was just ridiculous. Assuming he goes to NY.

The Kings best approach this coming year might be just let it ride, let Q, Laffy, and the other young players grow another year and improve. Let Kopi finish his career, and finally let go of the notion that the team can compete for a Cup. Rather, start focusing on the future. Not a rebuild, just biding time.
We might have no choice. The front office has bungled things pretty badly.

I'm still trying to figure out how we went from this:
...where the Kings were close and Luc's buddy was the new agent and we were trying to figure out if he should make more or less than Slavin to watching him walk. I'm chalking it up to Kings ineptitude.

Teams like the Capitals extended their goalies and Chychrun in the spring. You see guys in your core and you lock them up. Jets extended Pionk and Iafallo in April. Canes extended Taylor Hall.. Or you act like the Kings and dork around and dork around. And then suddenly your top defeseman walks for nothing.

Nothing says "win now" like letting your best D split.

I wonder if it has to do with where he wants to fit on the roster. He was a perfect top pair D for us until an injured player came back and took his place, even when he was struggling. I have a feeling he wants to be where he can be on that top pair. If so - chalk another W up for Hiller.

Let's be honest, though. Gav and/or his agent has always been all about the money. Even after the Kings traded for him they had a difficult time signing him to an extension (and overpaid to do so). Everyone involved knew it would be even more difficult to extend him again without compromising price, term and protection.
