Dream Theater debuted the first new song from their upcoming September 24 release (The Enemy Inside) today on USAToday Online.
Song premiere: Dream Theater's 'The Enemy Inside'
I'm liking what I'm hearing, here. Pettrucci's guitar tone has been tweaked a slight bit to give it a grumblier sound, and as always, his technique is killer. Mike Mangini's drum work is superb (and better, really, than Portnoy's ever was with this band's other talent). And as usual, Jordan Rudess' keyboard work is beyond compare. With John Myung carrying the bottom end of the tune, this is prog-metal at its best, really...and the only complaint I have about this new DT track is the same as the complaint I have on every other DT track that includes James LaBrie's vocals: it has James LaBrie's vocals. Other than that, it freakin' kicks ass. Maybe they'll release this album with a special edition naked tracks disk that only has instrumentals on it as they did for Black Clouds And Silver Linings?
