Gene Simmons in a jam band?


That’s right. For the first time in the legendary KISS icon’s long career, he’s operating not just without the makeup but without his KISS mates in a new all-star project featuring Def Leppard singer Joe Elliot and former Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach, former Guns N’ Roses stars Duff McKagan (bass), Matt Sorum (drums) and Gilby Clarke (guitar) and former Deep Purple singer Glenn Hughes, among others.


Plans were unveiled Thursday at a special afternoon press conference at the legendary Roxy club on Sunset Strip, and the great man with the long tongue was pumped up.


“This is going to be a great time, a time for us to pay tribute to the fans,” Simmons said. “This is an important honor to step on sacred holy ground with a project like this, and all of it is for the fans. It harkens back to the old days of rock and roll, the Legends of Rock when Chuck Berry, Little Richard, all of them got together to put on the best show possible for the fans.”


The only firm dates are ten scheduled concerts in South America and Central American in places like Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Costa Rica and Columbia, but the plan is to expand with more shows in Europe, then perhaps America, though details have not been finalized.


“We’re trying to follow a great trend in rock and roll, and we’re going to have a great time,” Simmons said. “So stay tuned.”


Sorum, one of the main organizers, said the plan is to shuffle musicians, particularly singers, and the plan is for a two-hour show featuring the biggest hits from everyone involved, including Def Leppard’s Pure Some Sugar on Me and Animal, KISS’ Rock and Roll All Nite, Skid Row’s I Remember You along with several Guns N’ Roses hits such as Paradise City and Sweet Child O Mine with Bach singing.


“We’ll play all the biggest hits from each band,” Sorum said. “It’s going to be a good time. The hits will keep coming.”


It’s a plum gig for Bach, who says he’s been “listening to KISS songs since I was 7 years old.”


“It’s going to be one of the greatest rock and roll tours,” Bach said. “These are the best musicians in rock and roll, and I’ve known them all for a long time. The fans in South America are very passionate about rock and roll, and it’s going to be great.”


McKagan conceded that most of players have been a round a long time – maybe a little too long for some of them – but that’s a good thing.


“If you look at who’s been doing something a long time, if you look at who is still around, they’re usually the best guys to hang with,” McKagan said. “I wasn’t the easiest one to get into the camp, but this is going to be great.”


Hughes plans to sing the Deep Purple classic Burn, among others, and the British singer said he is really looking forward to the tour.

“It’s going to be quite a spectacle,” Hughes said. “For me, this collective of rockers is a fan’s dream come true. It’s a great lineup with players from a lot of great bands.”


Others involved are: singer Ed Roland from Collective Soul, guitarists Steve Stevens from Billy Idol and Billy Duffy from the Cult and bassist Mike Inez from Alice in Chains.

To help Jerry pay his medical bills, the band are offering up a live MP3 concert called Burning Down Boston - Live At The Channel 6.12.1991. This release was edited and mastered from a stereo FOH recording. While the audio is far from perfect sonically, the performance documents yet another magical night on tour while supporting the Faith Hope Love album.

While many of the song titles are familiar, the band expands many of the cuts featured here, including performances that are blistering ('Moanjam'),heavy and funk-laden ('We Are Finding Who We Are'), beautiful ('The Burning Down'), and truly transcendental ('Over My Head'). A few songs from the show were omitted due to tape damage. However, we have included three bonus tracks (an additional 15 minutes) from the same show that were not presented in the main tracklisting.

All recordings previously unreleased: 14 songs, 89 minutes.

(Rock News Desk) Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has completed his programme of chemotherapy, he's revealed. He was diagnosed with lymphoma in December last year and told fans the news a few weeks later.
His cancer treatment forced the cancellation of Sabbath's highly-anticipated reunion tour, with their appearance at this summer's Download festival the only date to remain.

Iommi admits he's not out of the woods yet – but says his health battle hasn't got in the way of working on the band's new album after singer Ozzy Osbourne and bassist Geezer Butler moved the production operation from the United States to England.

He reports: "I've had the last dose of chemotherapy so hopefully my body will start to get back to normal soon. The steroids were the worst. I've now got three weeks of radiotherapy coming up, which I'm told can be very tiring, so we'll see

Before heading out on the road on a co-headlining tour with KISS, Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee is enjoying some quiet time at home with his new puppy, Bowie. "He’s got these crazy gray-green eyes. I love David Bowie and it was either Bowie or Bam," Lee tells Rolling Stone. "We ended up going with Bowie just 'cause of his eyes. He looks like Bowie, dude."


When Lee and his girlfriend Sofia decided the time was right to bring a four-legged friend into the household, they decided to adopt. "We went to a couple of different shelters and we ended up over at East Valley in Van Nuys and there he was, just sitting there with three other dogs. And we were like, 'Oh my God, we gotta get this guy a home. Who could abandon this ****ing thing? This is the cutest thing on the planet. I want to kill whoever let him go,'" Lee says.


Anyone who's ever rescued a dog can empathize with Lee's anger, which is why the drummer is speaking out on behalf of adoption. "The [shelter] is scary. It is loaded with beautiful dogs and I would highly encourage people not to buy animals from a pet store," he explains. "They’re bred for all the wrong reasons, for mostly money and it’s just kind of a bad scene. We ended up going [to the shelter] and I’m so glad we did."


Cori Menkin, Senior Director of the ASPCA's No Pet Store Puppies campaign, hopes that Lee's fame will encourage others to consider adoption, too. "Having someone like Tommy Lee and other celebrities send this message out to their fans really raises the awareness on this issue. It’s such a huge boon," Menkin tells Rolling Stone. She also hopes that Lee's words will alert others to the prevalence of puppy mill dogs. "We did a survey and about 80 percent of people said they wouldn’t buy puppies from a puppy mill, but about 80 percent said they didn’t know pet stores' puppies come from puppy mills."


While Lee isn't an official spokesman for either the cause or the ASPCA, he is happy to speak up purely as a dog lover. "If you have any compassion at all, it doesn’t take a building to fall on me to go, 'Hey, man, look at all these amazing pets that have been abandoned or abused.' And they have literally seven or eight days in a lot of these shelters before they get euthanized and it’s like, 'Oh, man, you’re kidding me? No one’s come to get this dog? It’s got two days left and you’re sitting there going, ‘If I could, I would steal all of you guys.’” But I can’t," he says.


Lee and Bowie will get a lot of bonding time in future, as Lee will be taking the dog on tour. "The road gets pretty lonely, man, sometimes," he says. "It kind of gets repetitive
